Hi all,

sorry for barging in like this, newbie here. I need some advice. Been searching a lot but can't quite get it right.

My car is a 2006 W203 SportCoupe (CL203). It's got the standard manual dip interior mirror.
I bought a new one from E-Bay. It's got the auto dimming option and the small ambient light bulb.
Thing is, I removed the original mirror and there were no cables. Now, the new one has 2. A white and a black connector. White has 3 colour wires, the black one has 6.
I've found where to plug the white connector on the dome light panel. However, there is nowhere for the black connector to be plugged in.
Needless to say, with this setup (only the white connector plugged in) it doesn't work. Not the auto dimming and not the ambient light.

If someone can help, I would appreciate.

Other flat connector is probably microphone wiring.

I imagine the OCP needs coding. Although my experience in the past is it just worked but coding only needed to stop it dimming when you select reverse.

Have you covered the light sensor on back of the mirror (windscreen side), and shone a torch into the sensor on the mirror ? (to test it) ?

Cheers

Richard

Hi richard,

and thanks for the reply. You were right, once I covered the sensor on the back of the housing, the mirror started to dim automatically. Shining a torch into the mirror sensor did not make a difference.
The ambient light is still not there, now I am unsure if it is because the black connector isn't plugged in or rather the bulb is faulty. My guess would be the latter.

The light is powered from the same supply as the little LED. So sounds like you need to put a new LED in.

I will take it apart and see If I can change it. From what I understand, the bulb is incandescent and not LED. Will try to swap with LED.
I'll post the results here, maybe someone finds it useful.

Thanks!
