Hi guys,

Have recently inherited a 2005 c - class coupe. It has a few 'minor' issues but since I've paid nothing for the car, not too fussed about getting them fixed. Although I've noticed the drivers side mirror glass stopped adjusting up and down only left and right, then stopped altogether, now the the passenger side mirror has done the exact same thing and won't adjust at all? Baring in mind there's no noise when pressing the button, you cannot hear the motor trying to move the mirrors at all. The mirrors still fold in and out but I have to press the button a good few times before it engages 🤣. Just not sure what is causing this bizarre issue, I suspect it may be the light switch itself but am not too sure, what do you guys think? If it is the light and mirror switch is this easy to replace?

Thanks.

If i had to guess at the fault cause, from your description (potentially backed up by the intermittent folding) is that the wiring in the mirror housing is damaged.

These are notorious for the folding action causing the wiring to become damaged, as the wiring route is somewhat torturous and it ends up folded like a hair pin at one point, and then just for good measure the toothed arm for the folding action motor saws it's way through the wiring

If you're technically minded enough, you can repair it and re-route the cabling to avoid this happening, but it's a time consuming task and you need to strip the mirror frame down quite a way.

Update on a very old threat but oh well 🤷‍♂️ the indicators in the side mirrors eventually began to fail on one side with the appropriate message on display. So you was right, took it to a garage that specialises in electrics and they re-routed and fixed the cables in both side mirrors and now they're working fine!
