Hi thinking of buying a CL500 2002 81,000 is there anything i should look for.

All for 8450

Cheers George

Make sure its absolutely mint inside and out (making sure all the electrics work) and the engine should look, sound and drive immaculately. These cars can be a nightmare if something goes wrong, but at that mileage if its been maintained very well you should be in for a treat.

GFP has a point though, CL55 AMG would be better if you can afford the running costs (which wont be a great deal more than a CL500).

if your wanting to have the looks and save a few quid on running then im sure the CL420 would be better being a smaller engine

id pay the AA/RAC to do one of their complete check overs for a few hundred pounds as im sure they then guarentee that its ok

once something goes wrong on them it can cost litterally thousands to fix

another reason why ive not bought one as my w124 is dead simple to fix when it very rarely goes wrong

GFP - DOnt think that shape came as a CL420?

I was also seriously thinking about buying a CL500 (C215?) but eventually the too many and apparently very expensive potential issues put me off.

It seems that the suspension has issues, new shock absobers often required and at a cost of circa £1k each. Rust, as usual with any post 2000 Merc (which is why I will probably defect to BMW soon) and in addition various 'small' things like alternators, starter motors, etc, each at around £500 a pop. Add to that the terrible depreciation -I think they will bottom out at £5, some early 2000 ones already at £6.5k- and it put me right off. Shame, as they're such a beautiful car and should be very comfortable too.

PS: No CL420's in that shape, 420 available only on the C140 chassis

good evening all,
just wanted to ask, i was thinking about buying a 420 cL 96 model, what to know if anyone knows of anything i should look out for, most of them have over 100k on the clock,is that ok?
thanks

very very expensive to maintain. When buying one at £10k you still get a £50k+ car's servicing/repair costs. Can cost an arm and leg easily. See other recent posts on here

Make sure everything works 100% before buying, try every switch and knob, it will take a while I know. FSH with receipt essential. Ring up Merc dealer they may tell you if there are any advisories
