SL55 AMG. BLACK.
Hi, I am new to MB projects, so hello to everyone. I have previously been a member of a few BMW forums when I owned them. I have just bought a CL55 AMG and would like to bring the interior alittle more up to date and have been thinking of having the currently burr wood interior trim sections throughout wrapped in a high quality carbon fibre 3M material possibly a silver carbon fibre material.

My questions are this;
Has anyone done this? If so could they add some photos to this thread?
Has anyone got a guide on how to remove said interior trim sections (door sections, centre console section, rear armrest sliding top, front and rear door trims)
Does anyone happen to have a spare full interior trim set available for me to buy?

If I do this I will obviously happily post photos of the finished article. I did this in an M3 I owned and it did look really good and brought the interior bang up to date without looking tacky or cheap.

Thanks

Mark

Hi, welcome to the forum. I have seen 1 or 2 cars which have had their interior panels covered in 3M-DI-NOC carbon and in my opinion they did not look good at all. Check the US forums, they do alot more modding than we do to our cars here in the UK. As for instructions on how to remove panels etc. get yourself a copy of WIS (Workshop Instruction System) as it contains all the diagrams and information you will need for your w215 CL55.

HTH.

Hi Thanks, I am having second thoughts at the moment as have just found out the catalytic converter has had it according to the garage after I reported a rattling noise. He is findng a price for me but has said he thinks it will be expensive. Can you shed any light on this? Cost? Does anyone know of any places in the UK where reconditioned or second hand parts are available to buy? Or as a long shot does anyone have a good condition catalytic converter I could buy?
Thanks for your help.

Mark

Hi,
Is it one of the lower CATs? (as your car has four) You can remove both the lower ones and it will still pass the emissions test ok, some do this as well as a resonater deletion as a performance mod on the 113 V8 engine

Hi, I have wrapped my interior, it has completely changed the car. The gear knob and steering wheel arent perfect but they are still ok. Removing the panels are a complete MISSION, I wouldnt advise trying at all, you do have to break afew clips to get some of the trim off BUT when you put it back, you cant even notice. If you want to do it, I would happily help you, I live in Cambridge.

I have since wrapped the top of the steering wheel, and the centre console, ill upload some pics when I get a chance

I have removed my secondary cats and all of the mid section of my exhausts up to the back boxes, a company called top gear did it, they are based in st albans. The noise it makes now is amazing!!!!!!! It will pass emissions like that too.

all finished....I know its not everyones cup of tea, especially on here :P!!! BUT I like it and im the one driving it so thats all that matters to me..... Most people that go in the car are really surprised when I tell them that its not the original interior.

It looks a very professional job, well done. It must of taken you fore ever. As you say it's not every one's cup of tea.

It took around two full days, I think I might actually take the trim all off again and lacquer over the film to give it a better finished effect....not really sure if its a good idea or not though as I definitely dont want to take it all off and ruin it and have to do the whole thing again :\!

Hi, Thanks for uploading the pictures, it looks like you have done a really good job on it. I love the carbon look but cant make my mind up whether I like it on the CL. I had it in the M3 and it looked great but that was a different sort of car. Has anyone dont it using the silver 3M carbon weave? My interior is black so the black carbon might be overkill on the black? GOOD JOB THOUGH.
