Good evening all .

Brand new here and looking for some guidance .

I have for a long time loved the look of the cl 500/600 cars 03/04 .More than the more recent shape .
I have just been looking at a 54 plate 600 bi turbo with the AMG kit and large alloys on .
Its done 58k and looks fantastic condition wise as far as i can see .(i have not owned MB before so I am no expert in these cars .)

Its up for 20 k and has service history although I have not looked at this yet .I drove it briefly the other day and it went very well .When I went back a day later they said it had an oil leak and it was in for getting it sorted .Next day it was back .
I have really fallen for this car and am ready to buy it .What do I need to look out for .
Previously I have had Subarus ,under warranty and have had good reliability so no worries .What can I expect with this MB .
On a Subaru site I was kind of warned of this car for the expense ,but that may be due to ignorance .I dont do much mileage per annum (5 or 6 k perhaps ),so fuel ,tax ,not too concerned about ,but I have been holding back due to scaree stories .
Please put my mind at ease because I really want this car that I have seen .(if you can ,but be honest .)
Many Thanks
Rob.

Lovely, lovely cars.....check coolant as wierdly the water pumps go on these and then do the usual checks.

If you like it a lot, see whether the garage will let you take the car to a local Merc Specialist so that they can give it the once over...may be money well spent.

Lovely cars although I prefer the V8s as the V12s are a trifle nose heavy. £20k is a lot in the current economic climate however. I'd be bargaining hard, starting at £16k and hoping to get £18k.

Sounds like a good deal ...
I would look a bit more into the oil leak ... those engines are very tight and no space to move around and do repairs...
I was amazed reading that they managed to sort out an oil leak in 1 day...

Now regarding the price I agree with Roger... I would bargain it for less... as I have seen one 1.5yrs ago for £25.000 same age and spec ... in a dealer, this is before the whole financial bang starts officially.

these are indeed a great car, but you need to have the abc system checked as they are mega bucks to repair

Thanks fellas for the advice so far .
Getting it independantly checked at a Mercedes garage sounds like a good idea .
Salesman reckons the book price went up last month on this car !
Suspension moved up down smoothly enough when fiddling with ride height setting .

He has offered a 3 year warranty with the car for £1k ,and a £2k limit per claim ,but im not sure this will cover the smallest thing that could go wrong due to the complexity of the car .?

Still mad keen to have it and good to get some positive comments .
Thanks Again

It seemed a bit strange to be honest .I think hard bargaining is the order of the day .Maybe get 12 months tax thrown in (£400 isnt it ?) ,full tank of fuel ,and knock some off for good measure .

He did say the Alloys were 3.5 K worth and they are mint condition .Will check tyres properly for tread left .

Anything else to check for .?
Regards
Rob.

It shouldn't be a problem on the later cars but check the C pillars, sills, door bottoms and leading edge of the sunroof for rust. The body panels are aluminium so it will just show as slight bubbling of the paint.

Make sure it has a FMBSH so your 30-year Mobilo Life Warranty is valid. If there is rust and the warranty is still valid it will be dealt with under warranty and makes a good bargaining point. If no FMBSH and/or rust walk away.

can you be with the car for a few hours, or get there really early so you can see the car after it has been standing overnight, i bought mine was really happy with it until the next morning, the front had dropped down took it to mb and then needed a new valve block:crazy:
abc issues are hard to claim from most warranty companys, have you a link to the car

I am not too good at clicky links but the car is on their website Drive 4 Cars Rochdale if you want to have a look .

A very nice looking car.

I'm not usually a fan of non-OEM wheels, but they seem to suit the car well.

Thanks fellas ,Im going to go back on Weds to see if I can get a deal on it .
I will let you know how I get on .

Well ,I have taken the plunge .

It is a beautiful looking motor ,and I should be picking it up next week hopefully .

Decided with heart more than head to be honest but hey ,you cant always be sensible .

Live is for living and thats my philosophy .!!!:thumb:
