CLA 220d 2014
Hey everyone, hope someone can help :(

My vehicle: 2014 Mercedes CLA 220d amg line (automatic transmission).

So, on a normal day started up my car and drove a few yards before coming to stop at the end of the road, and the car cuts off. dashboard lights, music etc. are still on at this point however the engine has cut out, pretty much like it stalled.

I didn't think nothing of it at this point, thinking I may have left the eco mode on (auto start/stop - which I always turn off btw). I then remove the key, start again and drive off. About a 100 yards or so when I come to another stop, I notice the power struggling and it cuts off again. At this point I knew it was something serious and being on a busy road at this point, had to find somewhere to pull into, not so easy as cars were parked on either side.

The car cranks, runs for a few seconds and then cuts off again. This happened several times before I was able to pull into a space.

I removed the key and left it for a few minutes as I went to scope and see whether there was anywhere to park further on potentially with help of some people pushing the vehicle as the current space was in a bus lane.
After it being turned off for about 5 minutes or so, I started it again in an attempt to move it and this time had an engine management light but no message on the cluster. It was almost as if it was in limp mode as the car drove around 500 yards before I parked it up safely.

Me and a friend then decided the best option would be to drive it a quiet time in the night to a nearby mechanic (about a mile away). The car started and at a low speed we braved it.
As we got to around the halfway point and again the car came to a stop, it hesitated and cut off. Same thing, cranked for a few seconds, started and then stopped repeatedly .

To summarise the events, we were accompanied by police, waited for 5 hours for tow recovery to turn up, and at this point the car battery also went flat after several attempts of trying to fire it up, all up until 3am 😁.

Took it to a mechanic who said the battery was completely flat and needed charging (as we thought and which he done) - however following that, the mechanic said there are no issues on the car and is unable to diagnose a problem as no faults are being picked up by his tools and checks!

He test drove it with no issues, and told us to do the same. With very little option on what to do we reluctantly collected the car and drove for a few miles with no issues.

So currently the car which had these serious issues, is currently undiagnosed and back with me at home. I've been told to drive the car, however if it cuts off again to return to the mechanic as he will then be able to take a look as there may be some fault codes as a starting point.

Does anyone have any idea what this can be or heard of anything similar? Very stressful trying to sort this and I'm afraid to drive the vehicle in the case of it cutting out at a more serious or inconvenient time :(

Take it to a better mechanic , Mercedes main dealer or a local specialist.

As there are no faults appearing at the moment with a reader or tools, do you still think they'd be able to diagnose the issue?

Would be very surprised if there are "no faults". I've yet to scan a car that did not at least have historic codes.
You have not mentioned if this was a mechanic with proper Mercedes Diagnostic Tools, if not get it to one who has.

I sorted things out.

Removed the TV and sold it. :)

U said the eml was on so a code would be logged ?? Get to an indy or main dealer to try and sort it out
