New user here so go easy on me!
I've had my car for 3 years (in June) 66 plate CLA AMG 2.1d. Over the past few months I've had a fault with the front parking sensor. Obviously with lockdown I couldn't get this checked. I've been to an independent MB specialist who says I have a software issue with the Collision Assist (he is charging £140+vat to do this) He also is saying there is an issue with the battery which means I may need a new battery which will need a software update as well. (He's saying new battery 260-280 plus software 80+vat) so looking at best part of 600quid!
He's suggested taking it to Merc and asking them if they would do it under warranty.
My question is: has anybody had any success with this especially considering the car is just under a year out of warranty? The 2 faults with the car aren't necessarily wear and tear as such and could not be prevented by better driving habits etc. I don't feel its fair to expect to pay to rectify a software issue as this is really a fault with the system as such.

Welcome.

I don't know for fact, but I would expect that MB will extend the warranty period given that the dealerships were closed during the COVID-19 lockdown - definitely worth trying.

My manufacturer warranty would have ran out in November 2019. The problem started in Feb 2020

MB do (sometimes) offer Goodwill warranty during the 4th year for cars that have full dealer service. So yes, worth trying. You may need to convince the dealer to submit a request for Goodwill contribution from MB (they don't always volunteer this option).

The good news is I have had a 3 year service plan with MB and due to have my 3rd service with them in December.

It should be on its fourth service this year - MB may regard that as an incomplete service history and ignore any request for a goodwill contribution to the parking sensor.

I bought the car in June 2017 and it had 1800 miles on it. First service would have been due Nov 2017 which I paid up front from MB then took a service plan for 3 years. Sorry my explanation wasn't clear.

Did you check with the MB dealer if they were willing to contact MB HQ and request contribution under Goodwill warranty?

Update for anyone interested.
MB have updated the software which means the Collision Assist is working fine now. Only issue is the sensor which may or may not have caused the issue was actually stone damaged so this needs replaced. Managed to pick one up off ebay relatively cheap and getting this fitted soon. Battery wouldn't be replaced under warranty unfortunately so going to get this done and system reset at local independent workshop.
