When I was getting my car washed today the rollers in the wash broke off my star ! I have to go back tomorrow and see the owner of the garage hopefully he is going to replacxe the star for me .

That'll learn ya never to use a Car Wash again!

Get your hands wet
£5 will get you a bottle of Meguires Gold Class, 30mins of your time will get you a better result everytime! (and wont break off your star! :) )

I always wash the Bike myself , guss Im lazy when it comes to the cars

Read the small print exclusions before you ask for a new star. All automatic car washes have "use at your own risk" clauses.
I dont think you stand much of a chance. Unless you are lucky enough to use a garage that has an owner with morals and a conscience.

I once went through a faulty carwash - no water! it gave my car a good dry scrub, forwards and back. It was at BP - I spoke to them about it, and they just gave me a form to fill out if once I'd examined the car in daylight I needed a re-spray. But that was very clearly a fault with the carwash itself; the trouble with the carwash removing bits of trim is that whilst it shouldn't happen, it's impossible to prove whether or not they were properly fixed beforehand.

I hate washing the car (too short to reach across the car properly - though I don't expect VTD has that problem), so I use one of those former petrol stations where for about £8 they pressure wash, hand wash, wax and dry it while I sit with a coffee and read the paper.

Since I am still looking (hard) for my first MB, can you tell me:
Are the stars fixed rigidly or are they sort of hinged?
Is it possible to remove them and put them back on?
From what you say, yours sounds like it's broken. How will you fix that?

They are on a ball with a spring through it, if its snapped off its never going back on!

I have 2 damaged ones that some t!t pulled off and left the star behind...

I knew someone who used a rotating brush wash.
The car-wash ripped off a wiper.
This remained tangled in the brushes and trashed his car all along and all the way back.
Could have been worse !!

So they are designed to flex but not come off and go back on again?

Yeah, in theory, you could replace the spring inside but it looked impossible when I tried.

They are £17 (I think) from the dealership.

I used to work at Texaco (when they were still 100% Texaco) and even though we had the "use this car wash at your own risk" notices, we still provided a claim system. The customer filled out a form which was handled by head office, not by the local service station.

I took off mine every night since a morning I saw my poor star all bend and the paint around scratched. The moron try to pull it off going bak and forth I reckon .
Anyway, it's easy enough, just open the hood and do a half turn under the star, you'll see, it's obvious when you look at it, and it come off.
I sleep better now, no worries about the star been ripped off :D
