Cleaning a soft top headlining

Anybody know what to use to clean the inside headlining of a convertible? It's like a cotton material, but I don't want to risk spoiling the tensioning. Would a light brushing do the job? It's just got dirty, no stains...
Sorry this is not about my MB, but I thought you'd let me off with a small warning..
