Been playing around with a vacuum steam cleaner, looks promising so far.
Although it's hard to get an absolute even finish I can see it's an improvement. After twenty years of grime buildup it just takes time and patience to remove - at least it is possible without having to replace the liner. Thought I'd share...
Here is the machine I used, seems only one of those attachments is any good for this application.
