I don't have a hot-wire MAF but my son does in his VW Golf Turbo. He was having uneven running problems just as many seem to here, so ...
1. We removed the MAF assembly.
2. Using a soft toothbrush soaked in electrical switch cleaner, we stroked the element gently. We repeated this several times.
3. We then sprayed the element with the same cleaner to clear away any debris.
4. Re-assembled and the thing runs as sweet as a nut. This was 10 months ago and he reports all is well.
I also recall that the car had one of those go-faster, K&N-like oily air filters before he replaced it with an original.
Has anyone else tried this?
Or are Merc MAFs different in some way?
