Clearing Fault Codes

My question is do fault codes and messages have a date stamp in the ECU.

If the error codes and messages are cleared from the system and ECU would Mercedes still be able to tell when the fault actually occurred ?

Once erased, they cannot be retrieved, certainly not with dealer level tools (SDS). I stand to be corrected if anyone knows different

They can see if the fault was recorded, ie in the past, or if its still in a fault state, once the fault is erased, its gone. At least until the fault recurs....
