So here we go, Im fairly good with spanners etc and have OBD reader etc
Not had time to do lots of diagnostic/logic to this and hoping someone will save me lots of time and point me to most likely(please god).
51plate 70k 320 in very good condition FSH etc.
Cant use reader as no interface, convertor cable doesnt work so sure codes are in there but no access. No known merc specialists in reasonable Colchester area.
Have strange misfire problems that are getting worse.
Latest is complete cylinder failure and engine check light on.
Start of journey all fine, typically early in journey floor throttle, loss of power and check light, engine sound/feel suggests loss of a cylinder. All else fine in car.
Get car home, leave overnight, starts fine on all cylinders, engine light still on, no malfunction displayed. 2 cycles later, engine light goes out.
Guessing fault happens, resets, 3 cycles later ECU decides no engine fault.
This has now happened twice over period of a week
Car always has slight tappet sound at early startup but goes in seconds.
It has always been a bit lumpy at idle but pulls fine in all ways.
Replaced plugs, cleaned MAF(big difference!), air filter new, oil and filter just replaced(mobil1).
Thought of coil pack, if so, how do they go? slight miss might be 1 plug on cylinder going and then when hot? second breaking down to a no fire to cylinder situation? Last time this happened was when coming out of works car park so running for around 3 mins only(hot?)
Thought also tappet not actuating valve properly to extent of non combustion but repumps on restart?
All other forum reads might say MAF but why just 1 cylinder?
