2000 clk 230 komp
Hi all @ mb, i have been checking old threads and cant seem to find anything related to my problem, i have just purchased a 2000 (wreg) clk 230 coupe yesterday and am after some expertise knowledge from you guys/lasses, the problem is took the beast out for a drive today and went to pull on to a slip road and give it some to join motorway traffic when lack of power and shuddering started to happen, pull over to layby as it is getting worse, turn off engine etc.. and start back up and all seems fine untill put my foot hard on the pedal and shuddering and lack of power again. finally rac turn up and very nice gent has a look over and states that it is prob the cat on the clk, he follows us home to make sure we get there okay, once home give kwick fit a quick call and the young man on the phone sates that he cant give a exact price over the phone as he doesnt have it in his book, althougth he does tell me that it has 3 cats and that it will prob cost around £1200 to sort??? if all 3 have gone and £700 if it is just the 1, thing is, first does anyone else have any other idea?? (no failure management lights on) and also does the car have 3 cats??? and will it really cost £1200 to sort, your opions ideas will be greatly apreciated, this isnt really what i have let myself into buying a mb, have i??
Many thanks in advance

A full stainless steel exhaust complete with sports cat for a CLK 230k is £700 so don't let anyone rip you off. Secondly find a local Independent MB specialist and get it put on the Star diagnostic machine to determine the exact fault, we can probably recommend one depending on where you are. A cat failure on this car brings on the engine management light well mine did anyway also I don't think they have 3 cats I'm pretty sure mine only had the one and definitely only has one now.

Also it could be numerous other things like the MAF you really need it on Star to get the codes read so you know the exact fault you are dealing with.

Hi, thanks for that, i decided to take it for a quick drive late last night and low and behold i am getting alot more power, only problem is it now sounds like a tractor, it is now certainly blowing from somewhere, iam going to have a look today and find out where from, im guessing this is what the problem was, oh and im in colchester, essex.
Thank all

Just a update, got the car back on sunday and all seems well now, it seems as though manifold bolts to the exhaust were rotten!! new titanium bolts and prob solved booked it in for service next week for new plugs etc...
Many thanks
