I have today had the CAR diagnosed on star the problem i have is both front and rear windows only work on the rear switches the front are not operating the windows even though the Diagnostics think they are ok switches were also replaced on talking with the engineer He commented that it was rare one this i agreed Now the roof works fine upon opening the roof the back windows go down as they should but the front do not move .Apparently The windows are linked to the roof module which is maybe why the front do not move we think but as we both agreed it still strange that all the windows go down on the back window switches are they supposed to he was unsure so am i ? he asked me to take the plate off in the boot to expose the module then take it back and try it with a faulty unit they have that will not operate the roof but operates all the windows just to prove a point what point that is i am unsure i asked did it show in the CAN THAT THE FRONT SWITCHES WERE OPERATIONAL HE STATES ALL THE BOXES WERE TICKED anyone have any ideas about this Thanks

Here is the plan we now going to hack the can network to see whats going on failing that my auto electrician will re route the front switches direct to the window regulator by passsing the rear window and can circuits wish me luck

I doubt you can hard wire the switches, They are all part of N72, Lower Control Panel and all connections for data are over a pair of can data lines, no hard wires.

The window switches work by offering a different resistance depending on the switch position, as does most of the cars switches

Looking at the wiring, the rear windows have a can connection but the fronts look to be wired direct to the Roof Module?

He needs to use Star Diagnosis properly, not just look at the fault codes. By this I mean work out which control module the switches are connected to, go into that control module and check that it is seeing the switch operation (in actual values). Go into the door control modules, check what they are seeing, and check they can wind the windows up and down from the actuations menu, check what the roof module thinks about the windows too (it maybe the roof module is what the switches are connected to).

If your auto electrician is talking about re-running the wires, he does not understand enough about the way your Mercedes electronics work. The switches could not possibly switch enough current for the windows.

I can't remember if the front windows drop when the roof is open, but assuming they should and they do not, then it is not likely to be the window switches as all they do is tell the module they connect into to send a signal on the network like the roof controller will do.

The hard wiring was just a thought of mine the front windows according to posts on here do not drop I took it a reputable merc specialist 40 years who i do work for who apparently ran star on it but i also believe that again from posts thar the w208 and star are not that friendly the suggestion of the specialist was for me to take the plate off inside the boot then he would try a faulty module he has with roof problems to prove a point with the window i have since found out the last owner had the aa jump start the car then the battery was replaced by herself hence screwed earth cable fitting not tightening this has been re-placed but still no front windows think the jumping is the source of the problem hope its not damaged anything beond reset thanks for both of your input

The windows drop after the facelift.

W208 communicates with star as well as any other MB.

Em someone is telling me porkies regarding star mine a 2001 i am not really a Mercedes man always wanted to try one not bad drive and solis and they certainly don't mooch bit disappointed with these silly issues though German engineering an all I actually run jaguars find them a lot easier to sort out suppose this is gonna be a major challenge

Well its not the roof control module borrowed one tried it still the same only we did note without any module connected the front windows worked the back did not this from the back switches the front still do not work at all auto electrician and Mercedes specialist were present all we know is someone out there has had the same problem and fixed it or not we are not going to give up star says everything understanding each other currently baffled

scetch of wireing

Can any one provide me a scetch of the routeing of the front window switchs on this CLK 230 W208 COVERTABLE

230 clk w208 cabriolet 2001 y reg windows

Mercedes clk 230 advantgarde kompresor 2001 y reg
Symptom Front and back windows work on rear switches only
Roof works fine
Things we have tried.
1 Diagnose on Star shows no problems?
2 Clean wiring @door pillars reconnect nothing.
3 Auto electricians tested circuits and baffled.
4 Test Roof module and swap round with spare one ( Merc specialist present ) all still the same yet another baffled person .
5 disconnect roof module from car front windows roll down and up but not back.
6 reconnect roof module everything still the same.
7 take off door cards check and clean door module and wiring.
8 completely disconnect battery for aprox 20 hrs rear charge.
9 Reconnect battery start car re sync windows etc still no change to front operation still all coming down via rear switches ?.
10 Re test roof after battery disconnection all ok.
The above is as current.
I have a used Sam module and door controllers on order should be here Thursday failing the parts working then yea i will be going around in a circle

check actual values on star when you press each switch, it should at least tell you what the control modules think is going on.

Apparently this was done and checked off by Albert Lock Mercedes Specialist who has been sort of helping out the fitter there ran the diag with star and did the roof module test he should know what hes on as he been there for 40 years or more but hey who knows me i am a computer engineer so am allways fault finding i have been playing with cars since i was 16 am 57 now .

So, your saying that when you press the front windows, star can see actual values of the front switches being pressed?

So i was told yes exact words star thinks everything is working thats why i am checking the wiring in the door pillars

I would go back and ask precise questions on the results. I am not sure how the switches can show states correctly on Star, yet not operate correctly.
