mercedes clk240 w209
HI guys, I bought a w209 clk240 recently. Its a beautiful car and i love it. the only problem is on the dash clocks. When i start the car the lights dont come on. Now when i turn on my lights the whole thing illuminates, the speedo works all gauges work but the lights like indicators, airbag lights, warning lights do not come on. Has this happened anyone before? any ideas on what could be causing it would be great. thanks a mill :)

Not sure if it's related, but I had an episode a couple of years back where my dash instruments would flash and flicker randomly. This issue also effected the indicators.

Took the car to the dealer and they traced the fault to a damaged control unit under the front passenger seat.

Replaced the unit under warranty and the problem was solved.

Perhaps take a peek under your front passenger seat and see if you can see any damage to the black control box under there.

It is known for the seat to partially crush the control unit when moved back - which is what they assumed happened to mine.

A slight design blunder I suspect.

If I have a front passenger, I just keep in mind to make sure they don't move the seat too far back or too low in case it happens again.

ohh i love mine. it seems to be amg spec styling with the designo interior. the indicators work perfectly , everything works perfect except these lights on the dash wont come on even when i turn on the ignition? Iv heard there is a seperate fuse at the back of the clocks for this? anyone ever hear anything about that?

Glad to hear you are loving the CLK :thumb:

Post up some pictures if you get time.

Your problem could well be fuse related.

I just thought I'd share my experience with you in case it was of any use.

Have you had your dealer look at it for you?

Or perhaps get the car plugged into a diagnostic machine to highlight any faults.

I spoke to my mechanic and hes going to take a look at it for me next week. If i thought it was just a fuse id pull it out myself and fix it. Im partial to taking apart mercs to see how they tick haha. any problems i should look out for? 115k miles on it. auto box. changing the oil in the box and the filter next week hopefully

Ahh, a hands-on man!
Lol, there are a few of you here :D

"KillerHertz" springs to mind, for example.
He has a CLK too and loves tinkering with it.

I don't think there's much he couldn't help you with.

Good to hear you are having someone look at your car. See what he can come up with, assuming he knows his way around a Mercedes.

Any problems to look out for?

Lol.. I'm probably the wrong person to ask as mine has only done 17k odd miles :D

But they are solid cars.

I also change fluids and filters etc way ahead of schedule so I haven't had any issues as a result of not changing them, if that makes sense.

yeah it really is a great car....apart from the mpg.. a whole 21mpg im averaging :( major sad faces about that but i didnt buy it to drive it all the time its my weekend car iv the van for work :D

21mpg.. Lol.. Damn, I thought you might be getting more than that. :D

Great that it's a weekend car.. You'll enjoy it more that way :thumb:
It's the same for me.

ill keep ye posted anyway if i find out the problem :) thanks for the info :)

OK so it turns out the problem was in the fuse box to the drivers side beside steering wheel. a loose fuse caused this problem and all is good in the hood again :) thanks for all the help and advice

I'll check when I get home but I think its the one on the bottom right as you look at fuse box by drivers door

It was fuse number 42. Hope this helps
