CLK 320 2000.light malfunction light

Have had problems with warning message coming up advising of lamp failure,checked lights osf spot lamp inop,brake lights staying on.
Replaced spot lamp bulb,and replaced brake light switch,warning lamp extinguished check all the lights working everything ok
Half hour later message comes back on after pressing brake lights,lights working ok.
Unfortunately car is prior to ODB2, checked with diagnostics scanner for pre OBD2 cars but unfortunately light faults not recognised by it,anyone any ideas.

Try changing the brake light bulbs regardless. The system works by detecting a change in resistance and often the warning light comes on before the bulb actually fails. As pressing the brake triggered it the most likely culprit is a brake light bulb.

New brake light bulbs and 1 5w sidelight bulb replaced all ok now.
