CLK 320 convertable
Hi Guys,

Just picked up a nice 2000 model 320 convertable for my dad.
Really nice order, only thing is just one key(which is a bit ropey-held together with tape, ignition is fine, locking / unlocking is not easy).

Probley should try changing the fob batteries first I am thinking?

Wondering if the new key cases offered off flea bay are easy to fit, then also is it possible to get a second key(with steel emergency also as there is none)?

Thank you.

The batteries may need changing or the key fob may have some damage, the coil often breaks free or has dry joints.

There are a number of case types so be careful in choosing the correct one.

As for replacements; yes, if you use the search function on here you will find a lot of information about this including a company other than MB that can supply them new as well as repairing older fobs.

Mercedes can order you a remote key and the metal blade, these come ready coded and cut for the vehicle and have to be ordered from Germany, you will need to provide photographic i.d. and show the V5, cost is around £250 and can take 5 days

Hi DSM10000,

Car starts no prob, it was when I got it to my dads and went to lock it, took several attempts walking round the car, tried unlock to no avail, had to go then will try again this morning. So the ignition part / function is ok its the lock/unlock.

Is this the guy you mean?

Wow on the merc cost, any rough idea what the other chaps costs are in comparison?

Thank you.

Oh forgot to ask if those links I just added there are allowed, if not, I will edit them.

It’s in the description so it should be ok and seems to be a match for your fob.
The link is allowed.
Take out the printed circuit board and have a look at it, it should be very similar to the one in the picture below.

That remote fob is in bad shape, it might be better not to use it … if you can avoid doing so… to lock the car as it might not unlock again, or at least only lock/unlock the car as little as possible

Be careful not to damage the components on the PCB.

Hi Dec

Used your vid to take out and change the batteries, they were showing 2.8 & 2.6 v, so the red led is now lighting to each of the 3 button pushes.

I`ll go to my dads try unlock before trying to take apart/remove the circuit brd, but yes looks like the type A case I have.
So that seems the same as that flea bay one in the above link?

Thanks

so long as the circuit board itself isn't damaged, swapping the casing isn't a tough job at all. There's a few videos around that show how you can change the circuit board by destroying the original casing (yours is luckily already destroyed so no harm done) and there's even a way to change the board without cutting the old board open.

I ordered mine on fleabay, was there in 48 hours and within 5 minutes it was all swapped over (i have the same key as you, 2001 CLK 320)

On a secondary note - i'd definitely get another key made up ASAP, you always need two keys, just in case.

It does look the same alright, as confirmed above and the ebay link states CLK so you should be ok.

The buttons and batteries of the remote fob are for locking and unlocking the car, the coil, number 11 in picture is what releases the immobiliser, if that coil is damaged/becomes detached from the PCB (by being dropped from a height for example)then the car wont start. This is why it is wise to have a spare remote fob, an expensive item but worth it.

The batteries in the remote aren’t needed to start the car, the are only required for locking.

My car is year 2000 - prob why when I input that on the flea bay sites its comes up as not compatible?
Although looks exactly the same as the 2001 as you say.

The micro switch bottom right on mine is the only one that is a bit intermittant/doesn't light the red led on the fob every time its pressed.
what function is this (as mine is just tape/unrecognizable)?

Thanks guys for all this great help.

Where exactly are you inputting it, cant see anywhere to do that.

In the picture;
1 is lock
2 is boot open... need a long press for 2 seconds to open boot
3 is unlock

Bottom right in your picture is unlock .

Thanks Dec,

Just back, bottom lt on mine unlocked, bottom rt must be boot(ah thats it press & hold).

So good news is all seems to be working fine.

Thank you so much again.

Hi Guys,

Key case arrived looks identical, will have a go at changing internals in the morning.

Sorta got a freak out situation. Was a few weeks mot test left on the car, so since got the insurance through, went got road tax. Since it only recorded 1k since last mot mechanic had a quick look over said all looked ok.

When I entered the reg and then the last 4 digits of the vin it came up "no record of car".
Got the vin from passenger side bottom of windscreen-have rechecked a few times.
So now I am panicking, anyone know how I could have the vin traced?

Thanks
(oh when I put the reg into the insu database for the insurance and also on eurocarparts to look at prices etc for service parts they seemed to find the car ok)
