Clk 320 let me down. Died in traffic

^ And this is why I'd leave it to an indy. You just don't know what problems may occur.

I'll tell you another job I wouldn't tackle (on an M113K anyway) Spark plugs! If they are seized in you can snap them off and its an engine out job to get the old plug out.
I'd rather pay an indy and not worry about unforseen problems.
My tactic with glow & spark plugs is:

- Start soaking them a few days in advance
- Hot engine
- Try removing with a torque wrench. If they don't budge, off to an Indy.

^ Sometimes you have to leave it to the specialists.
Half way through taking out a CPS isn't the time though.

If sparks plugs have been changed regularly then there shouldn’t be any problems with them seizing. So do check the service history.

Quite right.
The plugs in my previous E55 were supposed to have been done by a S Wales indy around 50k miles previously. It was recoreded in the service book.
MBS Southampton reckoned they had never been changed in the 13 years the car had been used.
It was really difficult to get some of them out, even with heat.

It’s not too complex, but there are two things to remember.
Only work on a cold engine and having smaller hands helps.
It’s an object you can either see OR feel, but not both at the same time.
Agree with buying an MB unit. It’s not the kind of job you want to repeat too often.

On some cars you can see it. Not on a C55 AMG. I found it with my flexible extension camera, from there it was take loads of stuff off the engine to free up various hoses and cables to gain space. From then on it was by feel only. pig of a job.

^^ By 'Plenty of room' I really meant compared to a C class with a V8 motor in it that was never ever meant to be put in there in the first place, so tight was it that they stretched the entire front end of the C55 AMG S203 by 80mm just to make it fit

But not a CLK with a V6?

I can see that a V8 would be, shall we say snug? ;)

Finally stopped raining and I've found and replaced my crank sensor. My cheap obd reader confirmed it was the CS. What a job as on the Clk the wiring harnesses are in the way.

It was certainly not easy due to access. No space done over the heads as up against the bulkhead plus injection wiring. I removed the Mafia sensor and air inlet plus breather hose then tied back some pipes so I could kneel on top of the engine and reach down with my left hand behind the head to just feel the CS. With a long tyre lever I could just prise the loom back a little to see the top of the sensor then remove the plug.some say the bolts can seize or snap so I then soaked the area around the sensor in diesel to penetrate around the sensor and bolt. It then rained for a week so I left it soaking. I had to buy a 300mm 1/4" extension to reach down and I used a star socket and universal joint and gaffer taped them all together to prevent the socket falling off. As it happens my bolt came out very easily and it was corrosion free. The sensors are an interference fit so that took some time to slowly wiggly up and out. It then has to be turned to get it under the wiring loom and out. A massive relief at that point as no snapped bolt. To fit the new one I again used gaffer tape to hold the bolt in the hole as I knew I would have to turn it around to wiggle it back under the loom and into the hole. The sensor then needed tapping in from above and one nearly in I had to pull the tape off the bolt head and jam in the socket before gradually tightening down the bolt. Now I don't think my sensor had ever been changed as guess what it was the same as the one I purchased i.e. MERCEDES-BENZ CLK S - CLASS 0 261 210 170 at a total cost of £28 delivered. So bosch clearly make them for Mercedes Oem. No need to fork out silly money but you do need patience and a good cushion for you knees!

Very Cosa nostra :)
