    Hi all

Well.. after my accident its gotten me thinking going to upgrade my car instead of rushing back to the bike. Quite fancy something a bit special and CLK, maybe convertible came to mind. Anyone have any buying advice, or know of commom probs etc?

Would maybe something like an SL350 be a better car?

    Cheers

    Lee

I think the November issue of Gazette has a piece on buying a CLK, I'll have a look later for common faults and tell you what it says. Don't think there were many to be honest.

    W208 or W209?

If you're comparing it with an SL350, I would have thought you're considering a W209. Relatively different cars the SL and CLK. If you don't need the rear seats, and can stretch to an SL, get the SL350. It's a superior model. But do get one with ABC.

If it is the W209, the article says it is basically mechanically sound but early examples may suffer from electrical gremlins.

I was thinking of a w208 CLk430 dude... but i'm going to wait a bit... the current economic climate isn't allowing me to exchange my 202 (i could sell it privately but i'm lazy!)

The bike is in my blood.. I will get back on one just it will be a very long time before I'm actually physically able to.

They is a non Merc option too.. my father is considering giving me his 2005 Ford Mondeo ST220, which I use a bit and really love, its an excellent car!

Was considering the SL 350 this summer. I find they are rare on the 350 (optional) but standard on the 500. All reviews indicated its a heavy car and will benefit from the ABC.
So I'm surprised you recommend going without it. I might change my CLK soon and will still look at the SL 350. I like the 500 but can't justify the V8 for low mileage driving. I was doing the miles 4 years ago so I went for the CLK 270.
Whats your experience of the ABC?

Its a good job you did not break your typing fingers! Glad to see you are back.

Here's my advice - take your dad's car, especially as it appears from your writing to be free. wait another 12 months before buying yourself another motor as we are heading for a REALLY bad recession. If you think car prices are cheap now (and the last few days have seen a could of threads about auctions and low prices) just wait another 12 months when the pain has really bitten a few more people. Not very nice i know but someone elses pain will be your gain. Just get anything luxurious HPI'd for finance issues..these will be common (ask Chattonmill; debt counselling is his bag)

His 3.0 v6 mondeo ST220 isnt free.. but to me its a hell of alot cheaper than buying one myself! :D its alot of car.. full recaro leather, climate control, cruise control.. its a really excellent car. Need to see what happens with my motorcycle insurance first before I commit to something new.

Need to try harder to sell my w202 now.. I'll drop the price and should fly out the door.
