Hi all

After much deliberation I now have my eyes on a nice Mercedes CLK Coupe 320 CDi Avantgarde 2006 but have two questions and wonder if anyone can help.

I hate cars without parking sensors and this one doesnt have them :-(
Will aftermarket sensors "spoil" the look of the car and does anyone have experience of adding them. Or other advice on them please.

Also, are RAC warranty's any good?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Alex

Hi alexinessex,

and welcome, regarding parking sensors it would be best if you can find one thats already got them genuine MB only, dont fit aftermarket ones it wont look or work
right.

RAC warranty's are good

Halfords fitted aftermarket sensors to my previous C class, and did a very neat job.

The sensors were sprayed blue to match the bumper, and looked just like OEM. The led display was compact and neatly fitted above the rear window.

The aftermarket sensors certainly looked a lot better than a dent in the bumper......

.

Grrr... Im guessing after that and that Sat Nav would be nice also my hunt for a nice car starts again :-(

But many thanks for the advice :)

Kind regards

Alex

There are loads of CLKs with parking sensors. Should be easy enough to find one and with comand. There is a parking sensor kit that fits on the inner surface of a plastic bumper with no holes visible. Never had a car with one but I presume thye must work ok. car parking sensors, reversing kits, front rear parking aids, parking safety aids Try this link.

Hi... My budget is not very large at 8K-ish and looking for a 320 cdi clk in silver so not too many about at that price as they only made them from 2005-09... so will just have to wait again :-(

I've got this. Works reasonably well - but i would recommend that you get one of the company's recommended fitters to fit it.

I had aftermarket front and rear sensors fitted to the wife's slk and they painted them with genuine mercedes paint and they look good.
They even fitted a led light bar/buzzer in the same place on the rear deck as factory fits have for me.They are distributed in the uk by a company called 'steel mate' and are the preferred aftermarket specialist kit to use in most trade places.
Cheaper than damage on your car or yours and somebody else's!
Andy.

Have factory fitted sensors on my freelander from new lasted 7 years and now turn off as they bloody bleep when nothing is near me but making me slam the brakes. On the clk I installed double din DVD player and connected a camera, for 450 I have Bluetooth DVD cd iPod and parking.

Im after the 320 V6 diesel in the bright silver colour. Black interior. I only do 7,000 miles a year so happy with a car that has done up to 120,000 miles as I will keep it for at least five years and why Id prefer one with Parktronic. I have £8K. I just missed out on one that was an AMG/Sport up north that went for £8450 so know I will get one if I am patient. The one I was looking at without Parktronic was an 06 with 84K on the clock. Not Sport which is fine.

After market sensors can work fine??

For £30 I fitted then to the rear of my ML and over 3 years they never failed. Very handy to have. If you don't want to see them you can get ones that fit a stripe behind the rear bumper.

Mine were as below. £30 and worked a treat.

They look fine... I did a Google on the ones that stick to the inside of the bumper and they seem perfect... A beep is good enough and just looking for the rear to be done... another option if I cant find a car with them fitted for what Im looking for :)

Just thought I better mention that the behind the bumper strip jobs usually require you to remove the bumper to do a good job.
Otherwise you run the risk of them un-sticking and falling down/off.
Also damage to bumper paint taking it off and fitting it back on is a worry.
Don't be afraid of factory colour coded aftermarket sensors.
If bumper strips were so good who don't any of the Germans use it?
To think further I don't know any manufacturer using them!
It would look so natural etc but they don't -There's a reason why!
Andy : )

I think i have loaded the photos, mine is w208 the old man drives every now and then and as he is half deaf this was the only option for me.

They look nice on your Merc... All be it Im still thinking about the 320 cdi I have seen I may hold out for one with them factory fitted, might be lucky and get Sat Nav too lol

Im a bit of a perfectionist and I know if one of the drilled holes is a bit out of line or position from the others it will bug me... unless the holes are pre marked on the inside of the bumper on all models?

I have seen a few 05 or 06 320cdi's about with around 80,000 miles on them for around £8000 so I know I should get one with patience with the spec I want. So far just unlucky they have not been the brilliant silver Avantgarde with black leather I would like.

Who needs sat nav when you have a merc with the roof down like this week it's fun getting lost, yeah im a impatient barstard and could have waited for one with the sensors but brilliant silver and black leather and in very good nik was the most important part, sensible mileage over a number of years is another thing to look out for found many who had smashed it in a short period and then Calmed down.

In a CLK /SLK etc I would rather have the heated seats.

Amazed how many don't tick the option and its only around £150 when new.

Roof down in winter / night etc they are ace. Then even in winter roof up they are ace :) win win
