Hi all,

still doing research although going to see a 55 plate Sport on Wednesday. Would the suspension ride on the Elegance and Avantgarde models be a world away from the Sport models. If we were to test drive a Sport then try one of the other 2 trim levels would it be a world apart, with regards the ride. I assume the non sport models would have the same suspension but the variable is the wheels/tyres fitted. Again the sport would be harder but crashy?

I swapped the Elegance suspension on my 2005 CLK for the Avantgarde, including the rear spring pads. The change in ride height was barely noticeable - maybe as much as 10mm lower for the Avantgarde. However, the ride is noticeably firmer, particularly so going over the large numbers of traffic calming measures round here. Even with the firmer suspension, the cars are hardly sporty. I'm not sure that I'd do the swap again.
The car is a coupe with 17" rims. That's the smallest rim that fits over the calipers.
Ian.

I have a standard Elegance spec coupe with the standard 16" alloys. I find the ride very comfortable and it goes round bends well enough for me since I'm not a boy racer anymore.

I have an Avantgarde on 17 inch rims. The ride is fine. Firm but not excessively so. I did try one with the sports suspension option and this was too firm for my liking.

I changed from 17 to 16 inch rims on my CLK, very little difference in ride. Tyres are around 30% cheaper and last longer
