clk convertible
Hi, hope you can help. Was trying to open my 2003 CLK 320 Convertible roof and the handle came off in my hand. Does anyone have any ideas of how serious this is and if it is easily fixed? Someone at work told me this had happened to a friend of theirs and the Mercedes Garage charged over a £1000 to fix it! Up until this I have had absolutely no problems with my hood. I need to get this fixed. I'm in Glasgow so if anyone can recommend a garage I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks can't believe this has happened when the sun is splitting the streets! Sod's law.

Thanks very much.

Christine

Hi and welcome to the forum. Can you clarify what you mean by the handle as I thought the roof is electric and to my knowledge doesn't have a handle to operate it?

A clk has a handle, you're thinking of the slk.

Mercedes Car Specialists hes in Govan and very good and cheap.

I've got a 2003 W209 Cab and I dont seem to have a handle. I think the 208's do but I thought they finished in 2002 so assumed this was a 209

208 continued into the early part of 2003, there are some '03' plates around. Mine is a '52'

Thanks Cammy. I'll give that garage in Govan a ring tomorrow and hopefully they will be able to fix it without me having to take out a second mortgage!

Thanks

Well back to the drawing board. I contacted the Mercedes Car Specialist Independent Garage in Ibrox, Glasgow today and was advised that they don't touch mercedes convertible roofs as they can be quite technical as they are electric! Eh? Yeah that's right that's why I'm contacting a specialist mercedes garage! They advised me to go to the Mercedes Main Dealer. So folks any more ideas? Might need to bite the bullet and take a deep breath before I phone them. I tried to explain that my roof had been working perfectly (electrics wise) and it was the handle that has came off but to no avail.

Any advice greatly received as I am melting in this weather with the bloody roof up!

Thanks

Christine

Do you have the roof trim that apparently holds the handle in place ?.
I have the same issue with mine the handle come off when you rotate to open the roof. However I have the trim piece that runs along the roof missing.

If you do find a solution to this, please post it up as it appears that it may be a common problem.

a few pictures of the damage may have rendered more helpful replies.

It could be as simple as the retaining bolt missing, or complete locking mechanism failure.
