Hi all.
The problem is this. The interior Blower blows when it wants to and does'nt react from the dial.I could be waiting a long time before it comes on or just a moment.very annoying! any advice would be appreciated.:)

Welcome to the forum.

Is this only from a cold start - or any time?

Hmmm. In that case I'm stumped.

Anyone know if there's a thermostat (or something similar) that holds off the heater until the engine warms up? If so, could it have failed in the "on" position?

I assume its not full climate control.

If its just air-con with the two rotary dials and fan speed/air flow setting set up it sounds like the fan motor control unit.
Mine failed (common problem). Symptoms were whistling noise from the vicinity of the fan and random fan speeds - i.e. would speed up then slow down.

The control unit is bolted to the base of the fan motor casing (on e class its immediately above the lower trim panel on the passenger side) and cost me £150 from M.B.

My 2004 270CDI is the same - the electronics has to think about things for ages before it decides what to do! I live with it.
Is the Lift Bridge still there? I worked on the dual carriageway lighting for the Lift Bridge diversion 1971/73

Sounds like the motor blower brushes have worn out.

I bought a new motor and it only cost me £99.88 inc vat from PC. Merc centre ltd in East London. There website is www.pcmerccentre.co.uk.
