Hi All,

Just pre-empting a noise coming from my front suspension that I hope is nothing but tyres. Howver if it is the worst case I may need a lower control arm/wishbone and I have been looking around and ECP do two different ones a Lemforder and a non branded - there is quite a difference in price between these at around £50 or roughly 1/3 more. I am not planning on keeping the car much past a year or so depending on how things work out with it so my question is this - how much difference will I notice by going with the Lemforder part? Is it really that much better? I like to buy OE quality where possible so is the unbranded part a no go? Your thoughts please...

Hi again Lee :)

My personal opinion (and probably alot of members will agree) is to go for the Lemforder one if you go for it.

Its a little bit more (the 25% discount will help a bit) however thats because it comes from a factory, and a brand who are used to supplying the same parts to MB factory!

Our own brand parts are sourced from similar (if not the same factories) in higher volumes - however im sure for peace of mind (and a nice note in the Service book) a reciept for a Lemforder part will go down well! :thumb:

You are right if they supply MB then the parts must be of a high standard. I think that has made up my mind for me. I have have to wait until tomorrow lunchtime for the diagnosis so fingers crossed it wont be that part but at least I am ready to order if I need to.
Thanks for your help once again Patrick :)

You will need lower ball joints too. The lemforder make is ideal for these also.

I was just looking at what else I could throw in at the same time so thanks for the heads up.
Any idea if the bush is knackered whether it would only make the noise first thing in the morning and then its fine for the whole rest of the journey. I thought that maybe if the bush had failed then it would do it every time the car went on full lock and back.

Hi,
When my lower bushes have gone on both of my cars they never made any noise at all, the only sympton i got was the "skipping over gravel" feel on lock, and this was worse one side than the other.
I have one gone on my C230k at the moment, and I will be replacing both lower arms, as they have both done the same mileage, new lower ball joints (still original after 165,000miles) and complete new drag link assembly for the steering. (I,ll be ringing you soon Olly).
I to have been wondering which of these lower arms that ECP supply would be best as well.
How much do these arms come out each with the forum discount applied?

No noise the morning from the front end so maybe the bushes or tyres are getting frozen over night and that is what the noise has been. Its far warmer this morning and not a peak out of the front suspension.

Are your front tyres wearing evenly? normally a good indication of something amiss. My N/S tyre is wearing very badly on its extreme outside edge, the edge can be completly smooth but there will be still be about 4mm of tread across the rest of the tyre.

I have a different set of wheels on as my AMG's are being refurbed. The NSF wheel has very low tread on the inside of the tyre. In fact the tyre is about 1mm from being illegal. Will this create the problems as I have been experiencing?
I am swapping the dodgy tyre over for a good one later as its MOT time tomorrow

Update - horrible noise was indeed due to the tyres so I am well pleased with that. He did however notice some play in the draglink so I may have to swap that our for new.

Pat do ECP do the draglink for the CLK as I cant see it on your website?
