CLK 320 Convertible
Hi,

A few months ago I bought a CLK 320 Convertible. I have an issue with part of the roof lining sticking out either side of the rear window when the roof is closed. It seems this is a common problem caused by internal cables failing/stretching. I have tried but failed to find anybody who can repair this so I may be looking at a new hood (ouch!). Before I do does anybody know if this can be repaired and if so where, and failing that can anybody recommend a company who can fit a new hood. I seem to be getting quotes between £850 and £1600!

Thanks in advance.

Gary

I thought the only cables in the roof were the two either side (easily replaced) that are used to apply tension to the front part of the roof, ie hold it up once you give it the initial push beyond 6 inches.

Does yours hold itself up or do you need to keep hold while your operating the roof for the first section.

Have a look at this video, I think it answers your question

Hi Mark and Ian and thanks for your reply's,

The hood operates perfectly and does not need holding up. I watched the video and when repairing the water bags it showed a pair of tension cables at the rear being disconnected. These must be the cables causing the issue. Apparently they break away from their anchor points. I need to find somebody who will undertake this repair.

It looks quite fiddly, but a decent cabrio shop should be able to help. You have the video to show them

Do you have a local independant Merc Specialist. They may be capable or know of somewhere.

Why not have a go yourself? (guess 2 to 3 hours work).

My local independent Merc specialist won't do it. I am in Swansea but don't mind traveling if I can find somebody who will.

No chance I will try this myself it way beyond me.

Have you tried Continental Cars in Cardiff , they are Merc specialists, if they could not do it they might know who could.

Unsure if they are like mine as its a A208, yours I assume is a 209? Took me about one hour max to replace both of mine, that included the time to make notes and take pics to create a DIY guide
