clk srs

where might i find the srs 'brain' in my 97' clk
this question comes partly from not plainly knowing where it is and partly from lazyness as i just want to find it quick without hours of exploration!
any help apprieciated

Remove the ashtray and its behind there. It has a big orange connector on it and held down with 5mm allen key bolts. It is very important that you make sure you remove the ignition key when disconnecting the connector on it

sweet, i would assume the 'airbag' fuse is for this unit or does it have another fuse or does it piggy back from another system

as you may gather the srs light has come on and a diagnostic revealed/suggested there was no communication between this unit and the 'laptop'

the tester reckons this unit has a short to earth im not sure how likely that is but i want to check the connections.

it was not a MB tester but the diagnostic connected up to everything else just fine and the car shows no other faults execpt the horn also packed up at a later date

this makes me think maybe the clock spring is iffy

any thoughts on this ?

again i appreicate any help as i dont have much experience outside the marque i work on!
