CLK W208 - Cleaning MAF air flow

Hi guys,

I've seen a few guides on how to clean the maf sensor for the clk 430 but non for the clk 230k , the clk 430 has an airbox whereas the clk 230k doesn't where can I find the maf air flow in my car? As I want to clean it so I can fix the issues below.

My car is currently causing misfire problems, gear jerking, speed issues. No acceleration or lack of acceleration when putting the foot down.
No errors on the dash board.

MAF Sensor
Replace the MAF sensor (aka Mass air flow meter):

1: Remove the snorkels that go from the front grill area to your intake housing. These simply snap off and out.

2: Lift your engine cover off of your engine. There are 4 clips holding your cover down. Simply just pull up and they will detach.

3: On the back portion of your intake (behind the engine, where your intake housing connects to the engine, you will see the MAF sensor. Using a flat head screwdriver, unclip the metal clip on the back of the MAF and then unclip the plastic clips on the front.

4: Unplug the wire on the right and place it somewhere where you will find it again. Then gently pull the MAF out of it’s place and reverse the directions to put it back together.

Looking at your expansion bottle near the cap looks like you have overheating issues maybe? Sure you havent a head gasket issue?

but same engine and same layout here is the air mass

just out of the right hand side of the intercooler!
air mass didnt put any lights up on my dash but there was bout 6/7 codes in the EMS
p0300 random misfire detected
p0301 misfire cylinder 1
p0302 misfire cylinder 2
p0303 misfire cylinder 3
p0303 misfire cylinder 4
p0100 mass or volume air flow
p0170 fuel trim bank 1

Thanks everyone and thanks for the picture mate .

I got the maf out and cleaned it, seemed fine to me, no oil leak, no damage, wasn't that dirty a few flies. I put it back together and connected it up then started the car, took it for a spin but still same problem car doesn't run properly , still no acceleration power when I put my foot down, it struggles.

Don't know what else to do?

Yeah that happened in the snow when my car heated up quite abit when I got stuck .

How can I check the head gasket?

Hi,
Just because you have cleaned doesn,t mean its ok, try running the car with the MAF disconnected.

Yep I tried that aswell disconnected the maf, drove and it done the same as before but this time the car cut off when I parked on the side of the road so I connected the maf back up and drove home.

how can I tell if a maf is damaged then?

Lack of acceleration when you put your foot down ...

Don't clean it. It rarely works properly afterwards.

Get it diagnosed first then replace it if it is faulty. It WILL save you money in the long run.

Having a bad day today now the car isn't really moving , not really any acceleration power when I slightly touch the pedal or put my foot down.

All I done was reset the car (disconnected the battery)

Car was working fine before that.

It starts but makes horrible noises currently waiting for RAC to come down my house to see if he can fix the problem temporary so I can take it down my local garage to get diagnostics done.

It sounds like the throttle flap needs re-setting as well as your air mass issue. Leave the ignition on for 15 minuites and try again.

RAC just left and said its something to do with the fuel, fuel overflow. He said the fuel sensor might be gone and you could smell the petrol.

And the maf sensor may be the other issue as well as the fuel sensor.

Sorry for double posting.

Got my car fixed .

Description of work done:
Free off turbo regeneration valve and re-calibrate (apparently it was clogged and this causes the maf sensor to fail) which also had to be replaced.

New maf sensor and reset adaptions.

Problem solved .
