Car
W208 CLK 320 Avantgarde - Yamaha R6
Would they look ok, more importantly would it even be possible to fit day time running lights?

I like the look of them on the newer mercedes but wondered what peoples thoughts of them on older cars are

Thanks

Soe people think they look a bit 'chavvy' - possibly because a lot of 'yoofs' seem to like them.
I say go for it, but get a good quality bright set rather than some of the cheaper ones I've seen.
Also you will need some way of dimming/extinguishing them at night

I think your right mate, if it was a route I was thinking of it would have to look as close to the Mercedes current option as possible. Not sure if anyone has fitted them to a CLK W208 before, it may just look really silly. I'd have to see a picture before thinking about doing it. I guess it would also remove the fog lights at the front to make way for the DRL's.

These look to be a quality item.

Not sure where I would fit them though. Grille is a no no, but you might fit them into the little grilles next to the foglights. I think that would work.

Cheers mate, do you think that they would look odd next to the fog lights, and if they did fit in the black grill, would they be too far over?

I personally don't think DRL's look right on older cars. Even if fitted with high quality items and fitted properly. Its just something about them on older cars....they just don't look right/go well I feel.

Excuse the dreadful cut and paste, but looks ok to me :)

DRLs

Actually that doesn't look so bad, think I may have to get the tape measure out and see if they would even fit in the grill gap, it is a small gap.

I currently think that the DRLs that are seen on even some of the newer stuff looks a bit 'chavvy' if I'm honest :o

Sticking them on to older cars seems a bit tacky IMHO - saw an old Passat with them the other day and I genuinely cringed  Is this going to be the new 'Lexus rear lights' conversion for 2010? :D

If it's a dull/dreary day could you not use the standard sidelights? :)

Will

I hate them - rubbish, pointless EU legislation. If you can't see a car, you shouldn't be on the road!

There is a guy near to me who has them on his Kia/Daewoo thing - two sets and they look soooooooo nasty!!

Am seeing a lot more older cars driving around with fog lights on now as some manufacturers appear to be using these as DRL's (inc MB on the Classic trim level!) and these idiots are copying it.....:wallbash:

EU legislation states that ALL new cars from 2011 must have DRL's!

I was looking at changing the fog lights for high powered LED's, but I guess the light would blind others as they are not set up for that purpose. It would be ideal to simply change the bulb for a simple swop over :-)

So what were saying is that if you want DRL's buy a car with them already on :-)

owning a w208 i would not add DRL's to it, as said earlier they would not look right on an older car.

W204 DRL's

I have a 2009 W208 CLK and a 2009 W204 C Class AMG sports.
Put DRL's on the sport and they look wicked, however purchased a new grill set with combined fog and DRL to do this. Can not buy the same for the CLK so will not be fiting as it would look just plain pleb or worse still like a BMW:doh:

OH NO!!!!! looks ridiculous, keep it original!!!!!!
