Depends if you can do most of the work yourself, these cars are designed to be easy to work on, most service items are easily accessed, except for the spark plugs (but then they should last 100K miles).

If you choose a good solid car and can DIY maintenance then they are relatively inexpensive to run and give a lot more smiles per gallon over a 15 year old Fiesta.

Love my 2000 w208, I think it looks mean as hell from the front, and even better with the monoblocks it sits on!

Paid 300 without mot as a project but sailed through mot and have run it for nearly a year without any problems includind 800 or so miles in a week when I went down south on holiday,filled tank up twice and still had over half a tank when I got back not bad for a v6 320.love it and even if it blew up tomorrow had moneys worth.

Still running just slight corrosion to brake pipes and will need new rubber pipes before mot in dec 2017 changed interior for leather 130 for full interior in excellent condition just need radio with round cd adaptor plug fitting (blaukpunkt changer)looking round scrap yards now will repair front wings with new metal as only slight corrosion but need wings and bonnet repainting dreaded stonechips
