Does anyone know if the w208 clk came with rear windows that open, its just that mine don't and would like to have them fitted if possible.:D

cheers brett, no worries. :(

Although , the rear windows on a w208 cabrio drop don't they ? why not the hard top ? couldn't have been that difficult to design it in surely ?

I think Howard is suggesting that the 123 and 124 are 4 seat coupe models in the same mould as the 208 BUT Merc took the retrograde step of losing the facility to go totally open with ALL windows lowered and no B pillar to spoil the glamourous look/feel.

It is very attractive cruising along with sun roof and ALL windows and B pillar fully open.

That's why there is such demand for good condition 123 and 124 coupes.

Look at Merc enthusiast magazine dealer prices for those cars and you will see they are often more then the later 208 prices.

The 208 will never be the classic that the 123 and 124 are becoming.

Merc came to their senses again with the introduction of the 209 in this respect BUT the build quality was still suspect and the car looks like every other sleek mass produced modern incarnation/Peugeot et al.......

Or...

W208s were designed at a time where every car would come fitted with air conditionning, whereas the decade earlier W124s and 20 year earlier W123s this was not the case. AC was either not available or a very costly option.

Or perhaps because they were such good cars in the first place!:)

Agreed but back to my original point, I suspect cost was a big factor in the decision to fix the rear windows of the W208 Coupe...late 90's Merc was well known for cutting costs out of each car, often at the expense of it's legendary reliability etc...

Howard's not suggesting anything, other than the rear windows on a w208 cabrio drop whereas the hard top ones don't ... :D

We have a w124 and a w208 and i'm aware that the differences are marked ...

However , while our CLK goes like stink , looks good , and sounds better , the w124 (strangely) is a nicer drive , feels much better planted on the road .....

I've always said, if i could fit the engine from the CLK ( 4.3 V8 ) into the w124 coupe, it would be more or less the perfect car for me ....

And yes, it is nice cruising with the sunroof open and all four windows down , arm out the window, but there hasn't been much of it this year ..... b***dy weather !!!

Where there's a will........

I agree it's a shame that the 208 coupé rear side windows don't drop, but it's not the end of the world :)

No car is absolutely perfect, otherwise we'd stop making new ones! :)

Never understood what the big deal was about pillarless until I got my current car, great open air feeling. And as I strongly belive that no man should ever drive a convertable ;) its the perfect compromise :D

Re: the W208, it must be down to cost, there is no other reason...!

It doesn't bother me. I never sit at rear seats & I don't cruise...

I used to think the same, sit in one without a B pillar and it does effect the front aswell. Also, there is no blind spot over your shoulder.
