230 clk conv
Im about to buy a set of 18" wheels (225/40/18 8.5j)

Would i have any issues fitting to my w208 clk 230k conv?

if you have fitted 18" wheels to your clk and not lowered the car, could you post some photos?
the more the merrier.....

Thanks All.

calculating the external diameter on the old 16" and the new 18" the 18's come out 5mm larger in diameter than the 16's due to the tyre profile's.

i dont want it to look like a beach buggy!!!

8.5" is a little wide for the front but it should be ok, factory sizes stop at 7.5" on the 208. The tyres are factory width but 8.5" wide wheels are 215mm, the tyres are 225mm so you'd have just 5mm (10mm/2) rim protection from kerbs etc. This doesn't mean they won't work I'm just making you aware. Normally you'd expect about an inch or 25mm more tyre than wheel to allow for rim protection.

Sure i've posted this before

18 inch BBS , Avantgarde suspension , no lowering ...

Those sizes are within tolerance.

For aesthetics the wheel arch gap should be about the same height as the tyre sidewall. If you have more gap than sidewall then the car looks like it's on stilts, if it has less gap than sidewall then it looks modified and in some cases a little silly. 5mm of additional height is only 2.5mm against the arch gap, 2 inches of extra rim is only 1 inch less sidewall next to the arch so if your car is lowered by 20-30mm it will be ideal. You can lower your car by 10mm or so by changing the spring shims (under a tenner each from the stealership and only a few pounds to be swapped by a mechanic).

EDIT: Howard's post highlights the need to drop a car by a few mms if you +1 or +2 the wheel diameter. It looks like it's on stilts ;)

Dad's car ;)

Still goes like s**t off a shovel , even on stilts ..... ;)

Plus he has a commanding driving position from all the way up there! ;)

My car looks pretty low atm but that's because the springs and shocks were fit for the dustbin about 50k miles ago...

As Shude said it should really have 7.5 on the front and 8.5 if using staggered wheels

factory AMG II were 18x8ET31 :)
The F1 edition had 18x8.5ET25 front and 18x10ET25 rear (129 wheels)!
