This is a stupid basic question, but could someone clear this up for me please.

What is the difference between a: W209 and a A209 ?
I know they are both CLK's of which I am a proud owner of.

Many thanks.

AFAIK 'w' is saloon (or in this case coupe), while 'a' is cabriolet / convertible.

So the w209 will have a fixed metal roof, when the a209 will have a cloth roof.

C209 is the coupe, A209 is the cabriolet.

Whitenemesis is correct.
No such thing as a W209 but people use it a a generic term.

They do - you also see "W" used for the SL and SLK which are really "R" (e.g. R129). And for estates, which are properly "S" (e.g. S203).

Yes. 'W' is for wagen.
But the clk doesn't use that afaik.
