Hi All,

Feeling a bit lacking in the torques department thanks to another thread on here, I was wondering whether a carbon lip spoiler would improve the street cred of my trusty steed "Wheezy".

Would this look good, or will I be making myself look sadder still?

Secondly, if carbon is a bit gauche, would a body coloured item look a bit less effete?

Thanks

Gary

Really depends what you like. For the majority of mods done on my cars, and no doubt by others on the forum is to think through what it is you are trying or wanting to achieve with your car. A question you may want to ask yourself is whether you intend to keep the car long term 5 years plus then mod, mod, mod. If short term and you want to sell in the next 1-2 years mod lightly so that your mods can be removed unless the other buyer wants them. Plus for the majority of mods done you will never see a return on them when you sell. I always buy cars stock and work from there. Helpful to think through a plan of mods and decide whether something YOU would like to do or not. Your choice, your decision and your cash, and i am happy to comment.

Hope that helps.

Personally I'd stick with mods that make a real mechanical difference to the car. Mostly I'd focus on improving the handling and then once your happy with that, look at the power. After all 'power is nothing without control'.

Tudu, wemorgan,

Thank you both very much for your comments - I respect you both very much and take on board your remarks.

Aiming to keep this car as long as it takes to save for an E class coupe...

Given the limited nature of the M271 engine :( I am picking mods as I go.

So... getting coding mods and ipod integration done by Comand next month.

Getting Brabus lowering springs installed (venue TBD) in May.

Considering having the seats retrimmed in the absence of worthwhile alternative.

Then, pondering pulley upgrade, remap, exhaust upgrade if.... there is enough gain to warrant the spend.

With careful mods would I see ~ 200bhp at the flywheel?

This isn't getting easier....

On the one hand, Baldguy's car is admirable... yet the overwhelming body of opinion is against spoilers....

What if I fit the spoiler *and* an AMG plate?

Just my opinion, but the AMG badge on anything other than an AMG is a big no no. AMG spoilers, body kits and exhausts are all fine in my book. But why listen to me, what do I know anyway! :)

Hehe,

Just joking about the AMG sticker - that would be a step too far :D

Thinking I might put the spoiler on hold...

I think the W209 looks great with a rear lip spoiler as it adds definition to the rump. I'd personally stick with an original AMG item in body colour.

Phone around a few dealers - you may find one they've had in stock for ages that they're keen to get rid of. Great thing is they come pre-painted.

I got a huuuuge discount from mine and that was from the first and only dealer I tried.

I called back again some months later - same dealer - and got another for another forum member at an ever huuuuger discount.

I put a CF spolier on my car and I am really happy with it.
As long as its not too OTT I think its fine.

Nice one Bobbydazzler,

The car does look rather nice with that spoiler....
