Clk w209 engine numbers

Can anyone tell me exactly were the engine number is on the W209. Mine 280 V6 model.
Reason I ask is that on my service invoice today the main dealer is showing a different engine number from the last time it serviced.

According to my owners manual engine nos on all v6 and v8 engines are on the rear right of the engine as viewed from the drivers side.
Never looked at mine so let us know.

Hello and sorry for delay in responding.
Went to main dealer who cleared up the problem. Invoice shows transmission number rather than engine number. He has supported this with print out of my car showing all the various numbers, build dates etc from his MB network computer- useful I think.

So, must admit I none the wiser as to were the engine number can be found. I do know though that it not easily visible, and main dealers do not routinely search for and add such things to invoices etc. Instead, they derive this information from the computer database.
