Am currently trying to get to the bottom of a problem with the power fold mirrors on a W209 CLK. The actual adjustment function of the mirror glass works fine.
Its the folding/unfolding which is the issue and has me stumped. The mirrors were folding in and out no problem but slowly have gotten worse, from operating really slowly, to not at all!
So having read several threads re broken wires, requirement for lubrication, tie wrapping the 'ratchet' part together etc etc, I am no further forward.

The below is regarding the drivers side, the passenger side is yet to be looked at, as that refuses to open or close, where as the drivers side would close, but not open!

One thing I did notice, is when I have removed the base completely from the body of the car and operate the switch, the small motorised locating part (beneath the wing mirror which sits on the car body) functions and turns clockwise, thus folding in BUT when I press for the mirror to 'open', the rotating part beneath continues to turn in the clockwise direction. I would have expected this to turn anti-clockwise at this point, and I believe this is where the fault lies.

So far:

I have fully stripped the mirror & found no broken wires (visual inspection)
I have lubricated all moving parts.
There does not seem to be any signs of damage, broken bits, or missing parts.
The mirror adjustment motor works fine.
The motor which 'folds/unfolds' mirror seems to be getting power and working albeit incorrectly I think.

Any ideas??

You need to do a continuity test on the wiring loom in the mirror to rule out broken wires. I have proven good loom sitting on my bench waiting to be fitted into a rebuilt drivers side mirror. I have a similar problem, near side works fine off side folded randomly and then pretty much died, I suspect its the motor at fault they are available but the loom is not. I have a second hand and untested motor, I am tempted to put a 12 volt feed to the motor but don't want to burn it out if the operating voltage is lower than 12v

You can get a thin probe in the back of the plug to test it with a meter, the two motor feed wires are on the other side of the plug to the rest, so at least you can identify them.

I did make a school boy error not testing the cables when it was all dismantled, as well as not taking any pics! :wallbash:

Just to clarify, the motor controlling the mirror glass works fine and adjusts the glass in all directions. The motor which i believe is responsible for operating the wing mirror to fold/unfold is also working, but continues to operate on the same direction (clockwise) for both fold and unfold operations. Surely this would point to the wiring being ok? (I will be testing them as you have suggested though for peace of mind).
These motors you state are available, have you any ideas of part numbers etc.

Many thanks once again.

Still haven't got to the bottom of this issue! What I do know:

The wiring loom is fine (all checked with multimeter for continuity)
The actual mirror glass motors are both fine (glass moves in all directions)
When the mirror housing is off the body, the motor which controls the folding mech operates fine (albeit in one direction)
The mirrors do fold in but wont come back out, nor will they 'lock' into place when they are out.
The motor itself cannot be purchased separately!

Could it be the main panel switch?? Is there anyway of testing it?

My CLK had an issue where as the mirrors would only fold out after around 10 mins of driving. It turned out it was the Front SAM unit.

The fold motor is available from MB cost is about £70.00

I was told by the dealer, it came complete with whole frame assembly and housing, to the tube of circa £525 IIRC! So thank you for that.
