1998 clk 230k convertible
Hi everyone, please help.
I have a 1998 clk 230k automatic convertible. Shes been having a few gear change issues. I have got my hands on a 2000 clk200 coupe with working gearbox. Problem is it has a tiptronic function and mine doesn't. would this fit and work?
Thanks
Dean

I suggest before changing gearboxes you do a basic service (oil & filter) on the current box, especially as it's been standing idle for the past three years. There is also a known problem with oil getting into loom or it's connection plug or something like that, do a search here. As for the Tip function I can't assist but I suspect it's possible to retrofit.

Hi john
Thanks for the response
I have tried the gear oil and filter and reset already. Tge car has been in daily use but developed hard shift and sometimes stuck in 2nd fault a few weeks ago. I think its time for a new box. I was hoping it would be plug and play. I also like the look of the multifunction display and steering wheel controls on the coupe, do you think I'll be able to retrofit these also?
Thanks
Dean

Then you'll need the advice from a professional or someone that has done the retrofit. And I see where you are coming from, as I'm sure it would be nice upgrade for the car until you get bored and stop using the Tip function :D

Get the car checked by a gearbox specialist first.

It could be the controller plate which sits above the sump, and can be replaced whilst the gearbox is in the car,so if that is the case, you don't need another gearbox.
