Hi All, my first post here.

I am looking at buying a CLK 270CDi 2004 with approx. 123,000 miles.
The car has a stamped service history, the last few were at a Mercedes specialist.

The one I like appears to have an oily sludge leaking from what I think is the small breather pipe that runs from top of the engine and meets with the big fat rubber pipe that attaches to the turbo.

There is a lot of this oily sludge at the front part of the engine undertray, so looks like it has been leaking for some time.

The turbo itself looks clean.
Should I be worried?, and what is the likely cause?
The car appears to drive ok and has plenty of power.

I have attached a pic of the area.

Thanks

I have done some more reading, and think the oil leak could be from the oil separator, as this appears to be a common fault?

It looks as though it's been leaking for some time.

I have not smelled any diesel fumes, so I don't think it's an injector.

Hi,
Yes, the source of the oil at that point is likely to be caused by the oil separator, a new one costs about £25 and is an easy diy 5 minute job to replace.
