CLK280 performance on hills

CLK280
I have just traded my 1996 E320 on a 2006 CLK280 (3.0 ltr V6 with 7G auto sports pack) and have covered only 300kms in it. I live in a hilly town and today for the first time used my CLK in left turn from a level street into a hilly street. This is something I have done many times in my E320 (straight six) many times and in that car the auto immediately shifted down and away we went up hill effortlessly. In the CLK, (S mode selected) within seconds of turning into the hill street, the car laboured so heavily it almost came to a stop before I manually intervened, using the selector to select a low gear. I then moved up the hill ok and part way up resumed the auto by selecting D
and again the car almost stopped. I also tried the same excercise in C mode, same result.
If I engaged the accelerator kick down in D (C or S) it would kick down a gear and then shift up and again almost come to a stall.
I am hoping this is not normal, can any has at a guess what could be wrong, or is this just the way a 280 with 7G auto works. (I certainly hope not, as my 13 yo, 220k km E320 would still eat this task)

This sounds very wrong & I would take it straight back!

I have a 3.5 Ltr V6 with 7G Auto box and this does not sound like it is the correct behaviour for the gearbox. I only have C and S modes but in either mode I have not experienced anything like your describing.
I am sure someone will offer a reason for this but it is beyond me.

P.S. Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like the car is going into limp mode. You need to take it back to wherever you got it from for some diagnostics to see if there are any fault codes.

Have you checked the fluid level in the gear box,a friend of mine had that problem some time ago and when i towed him to top of hill onto level ground we found that the auto transmission fluid was very low,on topping it up ,car gave no more problems.Just a thought.

Sounds like there is a fault somehwere, I'm no fan of the 7G box but yours doesn't sound right, I'm currently playing with a C63 with AMG 7G tronic and boy is this taking some getting used to. The 3 different driving modes are so very different and this one has an auto blipping feature on change down (not sure if that is standard?) apparently this is supposed to enhance my "emotional experience" (wtf!) I can see the point of this on a race car for stability when braking but really not sure on a road car. Sorry to drift OT will post about the C63 separately later

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. It is going back to the dealer next week, I will advise the outcome Ingin
