Got one of these whilst mine is being repaired:

It's the Sport, so has the AMG wheels and bodykit. What a great car, with a stonking engine; it just keeps pulling and pulling :D Trying to work out if I can afford to get one ... converted to the benefits of diesel now (especially with a 70 mile daily commute imminent).

Shows up mine; I've said for a while that mine has a problem with the steering/suspension/wheels/etc.; it just doesn't feel 'solid' and wanders and vibrates ... whereas this is rock solid, brakes in a straight line and handles wonderfully.

Not so keen on the colour though... :)

I think the 320 cdi engine is fantastic.....20 months on and it still gives me a grin...:bannana:

I've had two in the E Class and CLS and would confirm they don't make them any better. Great mid-range torque and overtaking power.

Have you had a chance to check what MPG you are getting out of interest with this engine?

38,000 miles and the computer reads the average over that period to be 39.2 mpg....can't complain at that -- best on a gentle 150 mile run not going over 70 nearly all motorway is 49.9 mpg...but that is unusual. I find on long distance motorway cruising it is around 42 - 44 mpg and that is cruising around ...shhhh 80 - 85...

And I know many people dont like the 7 speed auto - but it really suits this engine a treat...

So a 0-60 in mid 6's top end - irrellevant as I will never do it.. and as Brian says loads of midrange torque -- more than a Porsche Boxster....OK it doesnt handle as well - but I prefer it....

I would love to remap it -- but dont want to ruin the warranty....that would make it trully awesome....but it can eat tyres.....15-18 k on the rears...24k is on fronts...

2.7.... I think -- read it somewhere...stand to be corrected...

Which tyres are you using? If you're a cruiser kind of driver then Michelin Primacy HP's should give you better tyre mileage (assuming they're available the size(s) required).

Continental Sports - My problem is I do like the cornering...lol:bannana: Am I using the wrong make??

Not neccesarily - tyre choice is always a compromise.

Hello,

My dads 320CDi Estate regularly gets over 40mpg, agree it's a great engine.

That CLK looks nice, like the wheels

well, yours has the disadvantage of age and wear and tear.

not a fair comparison really.

maybe change your shock absorbers, steering dampers etc to get some of the "solidity" back

Went through the computer today, and over 3500 miles, the average is 28mpg; think every hirer has been enjoying all that torque :D

True, not fair, but just rams it home how much needs doing, but I don't know what does need doing (if that makes any sense :D). The steering damper has been replaced. The brakes (pads and discs) need changing, although they are witihin spec; the whole car vibrates when braking. Shock absorbers? Probably, they are 8 years old after all. Tell tale signs of shocker wear?

I know I'm going to hate giving it back...

What time does the ferry leave?
