Driving back from the station this afternoon - excellent conditions, interesting road. There's a place where the road turns 90 deg right under a railway bridge, but there's a side road joining straight ahead, if that makes sense. I'm on the main road, slowing nicely (can't take a right angle bend at any huge speed in the wagon!), and there's a guy on a motorbike slowing down appoaching the end of the side road. All normal and well and good as I start ot turn for the bend, except that the biker then doesn't stop...?!! I hit the brakes hard, managed to avoid him. It just struck me as I drove off that I'd been in the exact mirror situation to the classic 'think bike' at junctions - except that you would have expected a biker to be aware, and a huge bright silver E class on a sunny day takes some missing:rolleyes:

Ah, Surrey - a county I do not enjoy driving in!

My in-laws live in Camberley - I do actually find that the level of driving in Surrey is lower than the surrounding counties! Regardless of what vehicle is driven/ridden, it does seem that people in Surrey are more blinkered/suicidal than most!

As for your 'incident' yesterday, it does seem more and more common this day and age. Not so much 'Think Bike' but 'Think-what-the-heck-is-that-bloke/woman-going-to-do-next'!!

Were there clearly marked priorities at the junction ( give way sign/lines on the minor road ) ?

Or could the biker have taken it as one of the 'no priority' type junctions common on a lot of country roads , with him thinking : ' I'm going straight ahead ; the car will either be going straight on up my road or turning right and will give way to me ' - therefore I don't need to stop ??

No, all very clearly marked. My approach would have been even more circumspect if it was a non-marked no-priority junction. I think he just had a brainstorm!
