Clouds of grey smoke and now the engine won't turn over, is it the head gasket ? It tries to turn but can't.

Quite possibly. It sounds like the water has entered a cylinder or two while the engine was off, so is now hydraulically locking it.

Take the glow plugs out and see if you can manually turn it over. If you get it running remove the header tank cap and look for bubbles, or water gushing out.

I have to go back to it tomorrow. I hope I can use kseal or something to get it home

Will kseal work just by turning over the engine without starting it ? Or might it run on three cylinders if only one is leaking water in. We were in dublin for daughters communion and this happened when we tried to leave. Had to leave it there. Comunion last year and the rear disc exploded.

Is the head gasket replaceable without removing the engine ? And approx how long to do it . Thanks if anyone knows

If head gasket is gone I certainly wouldnt try and drive it as you are asking to ruin the engine.

Have you not got some kind of breakdown cover?

Yes breakdown cover will tow it to the nearest garage only or pay100 euro. I might try get a fronttow ring and look for avolunteer

By the sound of it you omitted confession prior to communion.

If it has water in it you'll wreck it.

Headgasket failure, possible turbo failure and it's sucked all the oil out the sump and seized the engine?

Head off is engine, gearbox subframe and suspension drop in one.

I don't think its seized. It failed to start at a shop and a jump gave enough power to turn over then it ran fine. When i started it the last time the smoke got really really bad. It was turned of and then the last try with a jump would not even move so i guessed it was filling up with water. I can also only remove three glow plugs because as usual one of them has the head broken inside. I was afraid the job might be with engine out. Everything at the back is very tight for space. I may try get it home tomorrow.

Steam from the exhaust says head gasket. Grey smoke is more suggestive of turbo.

And in turn sucked all the oil out of your engine and it's seized?

If it is turbo seals you were lucky to not have a runaway engine.

LOL. My sisters were laughing and taking pictures. I will get the pics from her. People passing by were stopped and staring. It did not run away though. It just ploughed through it.

My last car the Nissan Patrol did a big black cloud though when the turbo went for about a minute
