As suggested I'd smoke test as the throttle actuator is located on the passenger side by where your pictures show the oil. I have seen a few leak from this area and a few hours to strip and replace the seals either side of the actuator as well as other gaskets but first get a smoke test done best way to identify the hissing as it definitely sounds like you have a boost leak

Thanks mate

Can anyone recommend a garage with a smoke tester in West Midlands? Apparently it's hard to find any, just been on the phone for an hour and nobody has it. Searched google and bumped into plenty of outdated recommendations from 10+ years ago. Any help appreciated thank you guys.

All main dealers have the smoke tester facility. But before you go there have you had any eml lights on or fault codes as if the boost leak was bad it should put a code in the management system. Also make sure you get it sorted sooner rather than later as the 651 with a dpf is quite sensitive to having things wrong and can cause the dpf to block quite quickly and then ends up costing a fair penny to sort out

About 2k miles ago the car went into limp with the engine light on and the scanner said it was intake leak. I knew it was the charge air hose as I had to replace it some 2 years ago already as it was hissing the same as before.

What was different however, every time I’d leave the car overnight, next morning the engine light would be gone and the car would go ok if not pushed hard. Sometimes though it would come on and I’d reset it… So I left it like that for about 2k miles knowing I had to replace the turbo pipe but I thought that since the car resets the elm itself overnight it couldn’t be that bad cos 2 years ago it wouldn’t come out from limp at all 🤦🏻‍♂️.

last weekend i finally managed to get some free time to replace the pipe and after sticking the new one in it’s still hissing but the engine light won’t come on anymore and there’s no errors on the scanner even if the car is pushed. It seems it accelerates just as good as before but it definitely leaks somewhere.

Now, how bad was it to leave the broken turbo pipe for that long till replacement? 😐 It was a broken oring on the pipe this time. The time before that it was a hole in the hose itself so the leak was bigger hence the car wouldn’t come out from limp.

Cheers for the tip the dealer can run the test.

I would try

Or if you can make it to loughborough MB Automotive - Mercedes-Benz Specialist Loughborough as they 100% have a smoke machine as they used it on mine when my boost pipe split.. Very good guys here!
