Hey guys

Driving along on the motorway and noticed car was not picking up going uphill and kickdown was not working stopped and checked for codes and car came up with p0244. Limp mode is permanent but not check engine lights. When restarted engine revs freely and makes the right sounds. I have also noticed the engine/exhaust is now alot deeper like I have a custome exhaust. Not sure what to make of this as no warnings before and was perfectly running fine. Has anyone experienced this and what was the fix

Sounds familiar to me. Had the turbo actuator fail on mine a few months ago. It was getting stuck open and causing no boost. Car kept going into limp mode. Get that checked. If it is not that it could be inlet shutoff motor. If it does indeed turn out to be actuator there are two options. Get it reconned and fitted back or a new turbo. There two parts do not mix as each is calibrated accordingly.

That code points to the turbo actuator that is faultly.

There are companies that re-furb them, we have used them to not much sucess. We tend to put new turbos on them now.

Thank you for the pointers guys I'll look into those routes. Would you know why the sound changes when the limp mode kicks in? I've noticed today when I sat off that the glow plug light comes on for about 10secs then goes off but no stored codes related to it are stored?

One or more of your glow plugs will be faulty. There will be codes logged. Your code reader may not be able to read all the codes. This often happens.

The noise hange is due to the actuator being open. Think of it as adding another scape route ofr exhaust gases just a lpt further up the line from where they would normally escape.

Hi guys thank you all for your help and advice. I saw a Merc specialist and said it's the actuator so a new turbo it is including a #2 glow plug. I'll let you know how I go with this

Hi Guys,

I have so far solved the issue. For anyone else who may have the same problem, I was having the below problems:

*sluggish performance like the car doesn't want to rev up
*car would accelerate and pick up speed as long as you didn't kickdown
*when kicking down say to join on the motorway, the car would 'get confused' and shift up then accelerate all the way to the red line followed by a jolt/jerk and a second where the accelerator would not respond followed by limp mode until restarted
*really low mpg, i was averaging 30mpg at motorway speeds and town driving was knocking on 22mpg
*P0244 would show itself almost everyday and then if you boot it, this was followed by a p2510
*driving around with the Torque App I could see the boost was low and would never really go above 7psi

I took off the old actuator and it looked ok. I soldered all the points incase something was amiss and it lasted for approx 2 weeks before the above started happening.

I ended up buying a g-013 actuator on ebay for £140 which replaced my G-277. It fits perfectly and the difference was instant. No more codes and mpg has jumped to 38mpg at 'motorway' speeds and 35mpg in town.

For anyone interested the ebay item was described as:

New Replacement Garrett Hella Electronic Turbo Actuator G-013 G-001 G-219 G-277
