Moving on from the pics I'd posted here "A quick hello", which showed the car as I brought it. I've made a couple of minor mods, the fitting of the single bar diamond grille and a refurbish of the wheels, changing the colour to a gun metal grey. (I'm having doubts on the wheels, I may have preferred the original colour.)

I think you'll be alright with that , the wheels will never look dirty .

And the latest, a slight trade up to one with the AMG Sports package.

And a few more as I'm loving the car... Thinking about adding a rear spoiler.

Very nice, albeit that faux wood is not for me. Would look so much nicer and more in keeping with the car if it was the ash version or even the nightmare to keep clean gloss black inlays IMO :)

how does it compare to your previous one?

I'm with you there Abb, I don't think that colour is something I'd choose if I ever have the luxury of spec'ing out one fresh from the dealers. This has that walnut colour and a black headlining, the last one had the black ash and a grey headlining.

It compares well overall. The Intelligent Light System is a welcome addition I didn't realise was added as part of this package. I can see the difference in night driving of a wider lit area. I do get the odd person flash due to the slight lag in dipping the main beam on certain roads. The 19"s look better, although do affect the ride slightly. Inside, it's good to get the memory seats back, the ambient lighting is neat (three colours only on this model), having proper buttons on the dash for the heated seats, rather than ones that you can't see down at the base of the seat - all improvements. Having 30,000 less miles on the clock is also good, if only for my peace of mind.

Seeing as the last car and this one are both the same model and same year, CLS 350 CDI BlueEfficiency 3.0 L, there are a couple of odd things I can't quite understand. The MPG on this is slightly worse. I do the same 40 mile round trip to work each day. The last one I'd average 47 MPG for the trip, this one I can only get it 41 MPG. I drive it the same so nothing to do with aggressive pulling away or more stop starting. And filling it up, the last one took £80 to £85 of diesel to fill up, this one just £65!? I've done it a few times, filling up within a few miles of the low fuel warning light coming on. It can't be a smaller tank, but maybe I better be checking the history to see whether it used to do regular trips to Amsterdam or anything ;).

I'm now on the to OCD cleaning everything stage. Detailing the inside, getting rid of any paint imperfections and sorting the stone chips (Dr. ColourChip paint repair system is my chosen method).

OP - inferior fuel economy plus less cost to fill up. Check which tank fitted. Some of the MB cars came in both 60 and 80l. Based on your £ to fill linked with inferior MPG it seems that you must have a smaller tank??? I am not au fait with CLS but the E class of same era had both sizes of tank.

Nice new wheels . Not a fan of black wheels , nothing looks worse than a car with brake dust infested wheels.

You Sir certainly know your stuff! I'd never heard of that so compared the VIN data card on the old CLS against the current one. My previous CLS has this entry, '915 FUEL TANK WITH GREATER CAPACITY - VOLUME 2' so yes, a larger tank. That explains why I had less trips to the petrol station in that one.
    Thanks for the answer.

It's actually a new car lol. I replaced the other CLS with another one. Same model, same year - just the new one has the AMG sports package including those 19" alloys.
