So i know nothing about vehicle lowering and would therefore appreciate some advice. I want to lower the said car and add spacers. I do not want a crash and harsh ride though. I'm not wanting to go crazy low, just something that will look a little nicer. What do you guys suggest?? The wheels on the car are 18inch amg wheels. 245 front and 275 back. Thanks

If you do decide to, although I wouldn’t, go for good quality springs, such as Eibach and the like, don’t go any more than 25mm, spacers will very likely give premature wheel bearing wear and upset the handling.

OK, in that case I won't. I do think I made a mistake with my suspension refresh though. I bought oe sachs shocks and new mb oem springs. It just doesn't feel spot on. What should I do?

Ahh.... there it is, the classic internet car forum reply I was waiting for....usually from people who have never fitted them! I've lowered nearly every car owned and fitted spacers on most of the. May last ALFA was lowered and spaced for 5 years with no issues at all. Unless you are Hamilton or tracking you car all the time you wont notice any difference at all with the handling or tyre wear with spacers and. unless you fit six inch wide one's the extra load will be immeasurable and way, way under the loads you put on them at every corner and what they were designed for.
I won't be lowering the w212 Sport as it's pretty low as standard....although the rear is tad too high to my eyes. But I will be fitting spacers....purely for cosmetic reasons as I like the tyres close to flush with the metal work and hate that "tyres sucked in" look that many cars have from the factory unless you get the big power/big tyred versions.

Well I have lowered virtually every car I’ve owned, except the last two, over the last forty one years of driving, which is not a problem, but spacers can give problems, I had them on my last three cars, which I ended up removing from two of them, because they definitely ruined the handling, but as you say, they do look good, if that’s what matters most.

How big were they?...I dont go past 15mm....firstly because I think that's enough...... and secondly because that's the most my insurance company will allow without a premium increase!!!
Spacers are no different to fitting wheels with different backpacking (offset).... and often the various factory wheels have a different offset anyway.... so I dont see how sensible size spacers can even be noticeable.

Had spacers on virtually all my cars in the past 15 years, no issues whatsoever. 3 of them have been around the Ring also.

I found the W219 sat a bit nose down ar$e up so i removed the spacers on the top of the rear springs which made the car sit more "level"

Hmm.....might look into that to see if mine has them.....my 212 Sport is def a bit nose down.....but as far as I can tell all the suspension is factory stock.

The W219 came with the spacers from factory , the amount of spacers is dependent on options fitted. They keep the ride height constant whether it is a poverty spec or fully loaded vehicle.

Mine was starting to look ‘nose down’ - then realised broken coil spring

It's a classic and most definitely a Mercedes forum focused reply as few don't think outside of Mercedes designed it so therefore it must be the best.

My wagon has 300mm rear brakes and 295mm front , errr no !

The spacers do give a slight lowering visual aesthetic as the wheel is brought out so you might be double happy :D

Glad this topic is still is of interest. Im going to look into the spacer on the top of the rear strut. However, what should I then replace shocks and struts with? Mercedes genuine is too expensive and although sachs was OK (for struts) they seem to be not damping that well after only 20k max.

I don't think removing the rubber pads is a good idea, maybe fit thinner ones. The thickness is determined by the number of burls on the edge of the pad, removing them will just put the spring metal to metal with the spring mount.
