I know there is a similar thread below, but as my circumstances are a little different with regards to the quotes, and it is a different car, I thought it was worthwhile posting up my own thread..

I first looked into insurance around March this year.

£850-£870

I used moneysupermarket.

I did not end up buying the car I thought I would in March and am now seriously looking again, and intending to by this or next month.

So last night I decide to update my quotes, expecting an increase, as apparently the average quote is rising with 22p-44p pr day. None of my details have changed at all, so I was expecting to be quoted around £950 or so.

To my surprise- the best quote was £1280.

I have not changed anything in terms of details I supplied.

Is this the norm? Has anyone else seen such a massive increase?

I tried my current insurer Churchill hoping they would give me some discount as I have two cars with them- same price basically.

Also bear in mind that I have limited miles, social use only up to 4000 miles max, I have selected a huge voluntary excess which would effectively prevent me from claiming for anything but a write-off, and the car is not very high value. Garaged during day/night, my post code is an extremely low crime area.

How can the quote increase by £300 with the same car, same details?

If anyone has insured a cls amg this year and can recommend a company I would be very grateful as 1300 is quite steep, even for an AMG.

Insurance costs are very high, due to increased fraud in the sector premiums have gone up. I'd be very wary of making the excess to high, you may have to claim for a 3rd party liability, try not to make it too onerous.

You can do a confused.com search etc as well, but if thats the premium, that it. Short of going for a less powerful CLS or comimisioning a broker to get you a cheaper premium, I cannot suggest anything more helpful other than to pay the premium you've been quoted.

That's true premiums have gone up, and are still going up.

They are apparently rising by between 22p-44p per day which would mean an increase of around £50 or so between March and September. That's according to the price comparison sites.

Yet the prices I'm seeing now are £300+ more expensive- so that's 6 times higher increase then normal.

Have premiums on an amg of this type gone up by £300 in half a year?

I'm looking into some specialist insurers and have contacted one, will look through a few more as well- my aim is to get it to around £1000, which is still a lot but I would be relatively happy with that.

I don't really understand or agree with this 'increased fraud in the sector' argument either. It is the insurance companies prerogative to protect themselves, their profits and their customers from fraud. It's their responsibility- the fraud argument is basically the insurer saying 'sorry but we are crap, get defrauded every day, so here's a nice premium increase for you'!

Will report back if I find a decent quote, I imagine more than a few other amg owners or potential owners are in a similar position.

i insured my CLS55 AMG with sky insurance, they are not on the comparison sites but i paid £780 for birmingham central postcode.
Also try greenlight insurance, again not on comparison but they quoted me £895, both of those with £300 excess
Those prices were in my this year..

Try getting a quote from DirectLine, they've always beat the comparison sites for me.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations, will give those a try.

In the mean time, quite a surprising result.

Using go compare...£798, from quotemehappy.com

When the other quotes have all been quite close to £1300.

I am a little suspicious, not familiar with this company and since they are undercutting the rest by such a margin it makes me think I may have problems with them.

There is a bit of a catch of course which could explain the low price- voluntary excess of £500, BUT compulsory excess of £600 on top of that, which most of the other much higher quotes don't have.

That aside, does anyone have any experience with quotemehappy- I have seen an add or two but really know nothing about them. My concern would be that they are one of those companies that are happy enough to give you a cheap quote and take your money when there's nothing wrong, but if or when you come to make a claim will find all sorts of reasons to reject it out of hand.

Of course the answer to that is just not to crash:)....

Just got two quotes for my c63

confused.com = £994.73 with admiral

go compare = £754.11 with admiral which is cheaper than last years premium!!

Just got a quote from direct line £594 !! that is less than i paid for my c43 :thumb:

Looks like I need to give direct line a call..£594 is an amazing price for what is a high value car with that amount of power.

Very happy with £798 though, will do some research on what quotemehappy.com are like to deal with as a company and hopefully if the feedback is largely (or even partially!) positive will go ahead with their quote in the coming weeks.

Direct line are a good insurer, I'd get that insurance bought and/or get the CLS55 into your life. They are such fantastic cars.

Couldn't agree more, from the test drive I had the cls 55 amg is indeed a fantastic car.

When you get a decent stretch of dry road in front of you with no obstacles in sight..floor it and the acceleration is just brutal...30 to 70+ in what feels like 2.0-2.5 seconds, super quick car yet so capable and civilized at low speeds. Great exhaust note too every time you go fast 3000 rpm, you just want to put your foot down to hear that roar from the engine again....

£798 was from quotemehappy.com by the way.

direct line quoted me close to £1400!

Still got one or two specialist insurers to check but I'd be surprised if any of them were close to £800.
