I was at a small motor show in Glasgow last weekend and was able to sit in and have a good look around the cls. It is really impressive. Best looking car for years from MB. Anybody got one. Are they as good to drive? Be smug and tell all. I thought the £50k price tag was a touch high.

SportsCoupeRich is probably best person to speak to as they have one in their family and Richie has access to it... :)

I agree. It's the best looking MB there is. In my mind, the nicest car, looks wise, on sale

There are deals on the CLS now though as they are not selling as well as MB had hoped

First time I saw one in Germany in Dec 04, it stopped me dead in my tracks.

You have to wonder what planet MB are on - it's £10K dearer than the equivalent E Class. Plus it only seats 4, so apart from anything else, it hasn't even got the taxi market to hold up its residuals.

And I've read the R Class is a sales disaster in the US.

I do, and that's why much as I love the car, I can't bring myself to buy one ... yet

Its very exclusive in the UK in comparison to the E Class which is another bonus in addition to the CLSs good looks...

ITs the only car that would tempt me back to the fold but with that price tag more exotic motors would win out I'm afraid

Totally agree,
Loads of folks like it, or even 'love it,' but talk is not equating to sales. I think the CLS looks nice, but totally agree with Rory, including his comments about the R-class. Sales are not looking good, just look at how Grav has been treated.

CLS leaves me cold I'm afraid, I'll have a CLK63 cab. please :)

Saw in the paper this week that TVR production had dropped to 20? cars a week (they are closing the factory and re-locating).

If I could have any car in the current MB range I'd have a CLS55.

Comparing the CLS with the E Class is like comparing the 6 Series with the 5 Series. They may share certain elements but they are being targetted at different people who will place a greater value on certain attributes than others.

Its a shame sales aren't too good - fingers crossed they will pick up and MB will keep having the corporate confidence to keep being able to release such fresh looking vehicles.

well lets hope value drop like a stone, I may be able to afford one then :D

Test drove a CLS 500 with full amg kit on it this morning also a ML 350 previous owner Gavin Henson, problem I was down to test drive both cars but as 320 cdi versions, the aim was to drive them natually but to see if they would go in my garage big garage small doors cause I have to change the SLK350 to an unselfish persons car one that will take my grand daughter to be be in june so the wife says.

I have another option is if the gap between my car and theirs is too big I keep the 350 and buy a new golf diesel best of both worlds open top driving and loads of mpg.

Oh the 2 cars I drove the CLS was great and is favourite at the moment still do not like the rear styling. The ML was good and suits the 350 engine better than the 320cdi (they let me drive a brand new 320cdi around the block) but the 320cdi was brand new so it was difficult to tell how close it gets to the 350 on ability.

I wouldn't say so - CLS & E are both 4 dr saloons. CLS *is* an E Class in a slightly different body.
5 and 6 Series are much more different.

me too ...

but MB are chronically overpriced, especially the CLS

remember that the CLS 500 will get the new 5.4 liter V8 with 388hp very soon

Actually last year they were doing 12 a week, production has now dropped to 2 a week! Most of the Production Staff have gone already. As I understand it they are going to keep the R&D in the UK, but re-locate production elsewhere. Wouldn't be surprised if it's in Eastern Europe??? ;)

The CLS is a thing of beauty. Why can't all cars look like that... Was drooling over the CK55 in April's MEM last night.
