Looking to change the bushes and probably the ball joints in the mentioned part. What is more advisable swap for new lemforder arms or press bushes in to the existing arms?

replace the arms if they are old. its a matter of time before they start splitting

I have one of these. I could not find Lemförder arms for it, only cheapo ones. I could find decent (Febi) bushes but there was no way I could press them out with my cheap DIY tools. I think it needs a hydraulic press or expensive tools.

I did all the bushings on my Passat with the same tools so I'm not totally inexperienced but I didn't have exactly the right size cups and the force required was too great.

Settled. I'll buy new arms. Where should I buy except from Autodoc and euro?

ECP hardly have any parts for this car it seems. Autodoc is the only place I have found third party stuff. There's a site called oemstar.co.uk which does OEM parts they list the arm for nearly £300. I'm about to call MB, I don't expect them to be any cheaper.

Message MB Newcastle or Edinburgh through eBay with your registration number and parts requirements. They’ll give you discount and free delivery.

Hmm, I just called my local MB and for both control arms and the bolts it's over £1200! Just for parts!

At that price I can buy my own press.

Well I bought the cheap Amazon press and I was able to successfully replace the bushings. I used the cups that I had from the threaded rod press set like this

First go I used the wrong size (76mm) to refit and it was too small for the bush (75mm) and it ruined it. Second time I used 80mm and it sat around the rubber parts and worked. It needs heat, but not too much as anything above 150C will start to affect the aluminium. I got mine hot to the touch with a heat gun or a pot of boiled water.

Even so pressing out needed all the force I could produce with the press and a little tap from a hammer.

Pressing in was tricky as well since the bushing has no depth stop and you need to get it not quite in the middle of the arm - 9mm on one side and 11mm on the other. I was not able to do this as when pressing in it moves in jumps. I am about 1mm out, but at least I am the same on both sides.
