Hi all

Could someone please give me a ball park figure for front brake discs and pads parts, and how much labour to fit at an independent specialist? I has this done last year and now looking back at the bill wonder if I was overcharged...

I will soon need the rear discs and pads changing. Is that a similar job in terms of parts and labour cost?

Does anyone have any recommendations for make of discs and pads (it's a stock CLS55)? I may supply my own parts this time if it helps keep the costs down.

Thanks :)

buy from Mercedes .. I had a CLS55, bought non OEM pads and discs; they were terrible.

I've got a receipt for front discs and pads fitted by main dealer last year for £900. This is on a 2008 cls63.

Thanks. I paid just shy of £700 all in at an independent specialist, including VAT. Only £135 of that was labour. I wondered if I supply my own parts next time I could bring the cost down. I'd still want OEM quality, I'm not looking to skimp on that. I don't know if garages put a big mark up on parts and maybe I might be able to get the parts cheaper somewhere myself?

to be clear, the non OEM parts I bought were quality - a supplier to MB - but they weren’t good

I supplied Brembo front discs and pads when my indy fitted them to my previous E55 in 2016. Cost was around £200 in total for parts. eBay for the discs, ECP for the pads.
Labour was around 2hrs because of a couple of issues filing paint off the edges of the pads and some corrosion on the caliper.

I feel £700 is way over a reasonable price for essentially stock 1 piece discs and pads.

Indies will be getting a discount on parts but will charge same price as if you had bought them. You can't complain at them making small profit on parts, but in this case, £500+ for discs and pads is OTT.

I'd have thought about £500 all in for a decent set.

You've basically confirmed what I suspected!

When I owned a CLS 55 I always used OEM discs and pads. IIRC the rears were cheaper than the fronts and MB were very reasonable on price, a bit like their batteries!

Drop one of the dealers on eBay a message and get a price from them, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I seem to remember that the front discs have an S class part number

As long as you go for ATE, Textar, Brembo, *most* of the time you’ll be absolutely fine.

Got them from one of the sellers above when I used to have a CLS 55 (ATE discs) and got them for a fraction of the cost.

I replaced my fronts with Brembo discs and pads last September from ECP. £198 for the parts and I think it was an hours labour or something like that for PCS to fit them.

This is a pointless thread unless we know whether you paid for genuine parts or not :)

If so, and you have the part numbers, you can work out the cost of the parts to see if you’ve been overcharged. I’m guessing you know the hourly labour rate and time billed for the job? From what you say, it’s £535 for parts which might seem expensive, but just the pads used to be about £200 alone some years ago, so depending on the price of the discs and what else was used and the cost (wear sensors, pins, caliper bolts, etc) it may not be far off the mark.

A quick look online shows these prices for genuine parts:

That’s 600+ Euros just on discs/pads.

Can you scan a copy of the invoice - obviously removing personal details etc. If anything I’m surprised at the £135 labour - sounds low for discs and pads on a ‘55K to me, they can be a real pain to replace!

Complete noob here sorry. Random drop onto this thread. Need discs and pads for CLS55. Did anyone buy from these guys/know if reliable?

I had front and rears done on my CLS55 at a specialist not that long ago. OEM parts, front discs and pads around £520 and rears £300. Plus fitting which was around another £300 all in I think. I also looked into cheaper alternatives but decided OEM was the way to go in the end.

Here's the part numbers and prices for when I bought mine from Euro Car parts although you might want to double check with yours and this was in September 2019. not forgetting ECP are like DFS sofas with their sales.
